This brief, intriguing history lesson dates back to the late nineteenth century, when passionate labor activists campaigned for a federal holiday to honor the significant contributions workers have made to America's strength, prosperity, and overall well-being.

The very first Labor Day was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City. The event was so successful that a second Labor Day celebration was held just a year later, on September 5, 1883.

Fast forward to 1894, when President Grover Cleveland officially made the first Monday in September a national holiday, giving us the long weekend we all look forward to!
