๐ŸŽถโœจ Celebrating Black Music Month with a spotlight on the incredible Izola Ethel Fedford Collins! ๐ŸŒŸ Born in Galveston, Texas, Mrs. Collins was not only a talented musician and educator but also a dedicated historian and civic leader.

From organizing school bands to serving as an award-winning choir instructor, her contributions to music education shaped the lives of many. She made history as one of the first African Americans elected at-large to the Galveston ISD Board of Trustees, advocating for the preservation of African American history and culture in our community.

Mrs. Collinsโ€™s passion for music went beyond the classroom; she was a respected voice in Galveston's classical music scene, supporting local organizations like the Galveston Symphony Orchestra and enriching the cityโ€™s artistic identity. ๐ŸŽผโค๏ธ

Join us in honoring her legacy and commitment to uplifting Black voices in music and history!

๐ŸŽถโœจ Happy Black Music Month! Today, we celebrate the legendary Barry White, born Barry Eugene Carter on September 12, 1944, in Galveston, Texas. With his unmistakable deep bass voice and sensual style, he left an indelible mark on R&B, soul, and disco music.

Barry achieved major success in the 1970s as both a solo artist and with the Love Unlimited Orchestra, known for their iconic #1 hit โ€œLoveโ€™s Theme.โ€ Some of his unforgettable tracks include โ€œCanโ€™t Get Enough of Your Love, Babeโ€ and โ€œYouโ€™re the First, the Last, My Everything.โ€ ๐Ÿ’–

His contributions to music earned him two Grammy Awards for his 1999 album *Staying Power*, and he was posthumously honored with inductions into the Dance Music Hall of Fame (2004) and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (2013). With over 100 million records sold across 20 studio albums, Barry White remains one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
