When I'm not on the road, I "barn fairy" for some lovely back yard barns.
There is something about getting the barns cleaned up and ready for incoming horses before a storm that is strangely satisfying to me. My hope is the owner can enjoy their trip or focus on work (or whatever takes them away from home) and not worry about what is going on back at the barn. 🐴

We are at about the 2 week (ish) mark of the initial EHV outbreak.
I really haven't changed my plans much because a year ago, I decided to change my business model to mostly private, concierge type work. My trailer gets cleaned, my hay mangers, nets and buckets all get switched out and cleaned with either Chlorhexidine or Rescue disinfectant. We are keeping everyone safe and healthy!

Along with transporting some cool horses for some great clients, I also "barn fairy" for some super people with clean, organized, well labeled supplies and overall efficient barns.
This made me think of the barns that aren't these things..
Dirty barns are not only unpleasant to work in, but imagine the horses, especially those that spend a great deal of time inside. Dirty buckets will eventually lead to them drinking less. Dust, cobwebs and unswept/kept aisles lead to poor air quality leading to respiratory issues/infections (for horses and humans).Also, Dirty barns have higher fire hazards.
Well-labeled feed, medication and supplies make it easier and with less chance of error if someone is filling in for you (especially in an emergent situation.)
Do you have a backyard barn? Do you have a back up plan if you are sick or injured?
Enjoy the crisp fall air and go clean your barn. Your horses and helpers will appreciate it!

🐴 July 14th and 15th - Rochester - Stratham, NH - Rochester. I have room for 2 on the way back to Rochester.

🐴 July 16th - Avon, NY - Cornell - Spencerport. I have room for 2 going to Ithaca and room for 1 on the return to Spencerport.

🐴 July 25th & July 27th - Pittsford - Houghton - Avon and will return horses on Sunday the 27th. Room for 1 both directions.

Second Wind Stable is a concierge-style equine transportation specializing in door-to-door services, and private or semi-private hauls. I focus on your horse and not filling large loads. Our specialties are imports from JFK, and Newburgh, planned and emergent runs to and from veterinary clinics and hospitals (most commonly Cornell, Rood and Riddle Saratoga and New Bolton Center and our local clinics).

My experience includes a lifetime of having personal horses and owning and operating an 18 stall boarding facility until the transportation business grew and my focus changed to being on the road.. Also, I have 20+ years experience operating larger vehicles in the EMS and Fire service.

We provide our equine passengers travel in our beautiful, well maintained equipment. The trailer is a ramp load and also offers a front, forward ramp offload. We communicate with our clients including pictures, updates and ETAs throughout the trip. We can offer straight or a box stall depending on your needs. Depending on length of trip and horse needs, we have multiple options for layover barns to break up a long haul; however, our primary focus are trips within an 8 to 10 hour radius from the Rochester, NY area. All passengers are provided with unlimited hay and water that we provide unless there are specific needs discussed prior to the trip.

New clients scheduling non-emergent trips are required to pay a 20% non-refundable deposit.
Forms of payment include ACH transfer and Credit cards 3% fee added) through our quickbooks portal or cash, check, venmo and zelle.

Let's chat about horse transport. I get asked if I am a legit hauler because I charge a deposit for "most" trips. I say "most" because, emergency runs, I don't. For some of my very regular clients, I don't. My business, my rules! However, the reason I charge a deposit is because I block my time to dedicate to your job. I set up the trailer specific to your horse (box or straight), special hay if needed, I have to pay my "pit crew" at home to care for my personal horses while I am away. BUT, the biggest reason is because if other clients are part of your run, your cost is less and if someone backs out at the last minute, it shifts prices and often I end up eating that cost or I have another client that suddenly has to come up with more than they budgeted for. Running these trucks and trailers for a living is very different that having your own trailer for the occasional show or clinic or vet visit. We have to maintain commercial insurance (it's expensive and difficult to get), we have to maintain logs and paperwork for DOT, we are on the road A LOT, so there are oil changes every couple weeks, tires every couple months and, let's be real, horses are tough on things. We are often repairing or replacing hay nets, pads in the trailer, chest bars, butt bars, etc.
I am always happy to share names of clients for references. I take a lot of pride in caring for your horse and my equipment. All of it is important and expensive!
