Custom Transport

Custom Transport The year was 1985 and together, with his father Bill Stevenson, they created Custom Commodities Transport.

Specializing in dry bulk, plastics, liquid food grade, and hazmat products, Custom is a carrier of choice for Fortune 500 petrochemical companies across the Southeastern U.S. After working many years in the family feed and fertilize business, current CEO and President David L Stevenson had a desire to get in the transportation business. The first truck purchased was a cab over Peterbilt that David

drove himself. He got his start by hauling feed from Oklahoma and later started hauling wood chips. From that point forward he continued to invest and grow the business. Today David has molded Custom Commodities Transport in to one of the leading dry bulk and liquid transportation carriers, who is dedicated to service and safety.

If you’ve been hired at Custom in the last 3 years… you probably know Michael Koogler.

What you may not know…

Michael’s journey in trucking started just one week before 9/11 — and he’s spent the years since mastering nearly every role in recruiting: Recruiter, Advertising Manager, Recruiting Manager, and Director.

After 3 years working alongside Custom as a partner, he made it official — joining a Team he calls “second to none.”

Now he’s helping top-tier Professional Drivers find the right home.

And here’s the part most people don’t see…

Michael is also an accomplished author — 8 novels, multiple short stories, and even a Star Trek novelization.

He’s been on set in California…
and yes — appeared in the film as a drunk alien.

Because at Custom Transport, we’re not just trucks and trailers.

We’re People — with stories, passion, and purpose.

Michael is one of those people.

A question worth thinking about:
What does a successful trucking career look like?
Most people immediately think about miles, pay, equipment, or years behind the wheel.
Of course those things matter.
But perhaps the greatest measure of success is whether a Professional Driver can enjoy a long, healthy career and eventually retire on their own terms.
Life on the road comes with unique challenges. Long hours, changing schedules, time away from home, limited healthy food options, and the everyday demands of operating a commercial vehicle all take a toll over time.
That’s why conversations about Driver health, sleep, fitness, and overall well-being are becoming increasingly important across the trucking industry.
The goal isn’t just to help Drivers make a living.
The goal should be helping Drivers build a career they can be proud of for decades.
At Custom Transport, we’re fortunate to have Professional Drivers with 20, 30, and even 40 years of experience. Their professionalism, knowledge, and commitment are a reminder that trucking isn’t just a job.
For many, it’s a lifelong profession.

Here’s to building careers that last.

Trucking is what you make of it.

Every Driver knows this work comes with problems. Weather changes. Loads shift. Customers have delays. Equipment needs attention. Plans change.
The difference is mindset.
You can complain your way through the job and end up hating the road. Or you can learn the work, solve the problems, and take pride in becoming the kind of Professional people can count on. The hard work and the payoff is what makes the job satisfying.
At Custom Transport, we’re looking for Drivers who bring that kind of steady, problem-solving approach to tank work. Not steering wheel holders. Professionals.
Because in this business, respect is earned one load, one decision, and one problem solved at a time.
This is tank work done the Custom way.

There’s something powerful about seeing a Professional Driver who is proud of the work, engaged in the mission, and successful on the road.

Meet Tyro R. Jones, one of our Shreveport Professionals.

Tyro represents what we value at Custom: skill, safety, dependability, and pride in doing the job the right way. Our Drivers are the face of our company every day — with our customers, on the road, and in the communities we serve.

When our Professional Drivers feel supported, equipped, and respected, it shows. It shows in their attitude. It shows in their performance. And it shows in the standard they help set for everyone around them.

Thank you, Tyro, for representing Custom with professionalism and pride.

At Custom, we do not just move freight. We build careers, support great people, and celebrate the Professionals who keep us moving.

Good news for the tank truck industry.
The National Tank Truck Carriers welcomed the inclusion of dry bulk axle variance language in the proposed BUILD America 250 Act, a bipartisan transportation bill now moving through Congress.
Why does this matter?
Dry bulk products naturally shift during transit. This proposal would allow a 10% axle variance for commercial motor vehicles hauling dry bulk goods, increasing the maximum weight on any tandem axle trailer to 37,400 pounds while keeping the current federal gross vehicle weight limit at 80,000 pounds.
That means more practical flexibility for carriers, fewer unnecessary overweight citations, and a rule that better reflects the real-world movement of dry bulk freight — without increasing total vehicle weight.
For companies like ours, this is a commonsense step that supports safety, efficiency, and the operational realities our Professional Drivers and teams manage every day.
We appreciate NTTC’s continued advocacy for the tank truck industry and will be watching this legislation closely as Congress works toward the next long-term surface transportation bill.

This isn’t easy work. And that’s exactly the point.
🚛💪
In the "This is How We Do it!" video, one of our top Professional Drivers, Darrin Guillory — a 2 Million Mile Safe Driver — shows proper procedures in vacuuming a load with one of our specialty pneumatic tankers.
,
No speech. No sales pitch. Just the work. And it is Custom's most viral video.
🚛
Tank truck driving is different from a re**er or dry van. It takes patience, attention to detail, safe habits, and the willingness to learn a process that not everybody wants to learn.
For the right Professional Driver, that’s the opportunity.
Many Drivers come to Custom Transport to break into their first tank truck job. We provide the training, the support, and the equipment. But we’re also honest about the work: this is not drop-and-hook. This is not button-pushing. This is hands-on, professional, specialty freight.
🚛💪
If you want easy, this may not be for you.
But if you want to learn a skilled part of the trucking industry, take pride in doing hard work well, and build a career with a team that values safety, service, and professionalism — we should talk. 800-414-9234

There’s a special kind of pride that comes with finishing the job, doing it right, and heading home.
Professional Driver Luis Colón represents the best of that standard: skilled, steady, dependable, and takes pride in the work. OTR tank work takes discipline, patience, and a measured approach to every load, every customer site, and every mile.
But it also takes heart.
Because behind every clean truck, safe delivery, and completed run is a Professional Driver with people waiting at home.
Luis, thank you for representing Custom with pride, professionalism, and gratitude. Enjoy the ride home. You’ve earned it.
