Fresh asphalt is placed at 300-350°F. Crews work inches away from material that can cause serious burns, often in the summer heat, often through the night.

Next time you hit a smooth stretch of road, remember the people who built it. It's tough, skilled work most drivers never see.

Maryland Department of Transportation is inviting officials and residents in Maryland's eight non-metropolitan counties: Allegany, Caroline, Dorchester, Garrett, Kent, Somerset, Talbot, and Worcester to weigh in on its Draft 2026 Consultative Process. The document outlines how local leaders and community members outside metropolitan planning areas can shape the Maryland Transportation Plan and Statewide Transportation Improvement Program.

Federal law requires the state to review this process every five years; it was last updated in 2021. Comments can be submitted by email or mail through August 25, 2026. The full draft brochure is available on MDOT's website.

Every year we delay road maintenance, the cost to fix it goes up. Investing in roads today saves taxpayers money tomorrow and keeps Maryland's transportation system safe and reliable. Waiting to repair roads can cost up 10x times more than fixing them early.

🚨 SAVE THE DATE 🚨

Hot Mixer 2026 is coming — October 3 at Fisherman's Crab Deck.

Last year, nearly 200 MAA members and guests closed out paving season the right way: cracked crabs, cold drinks, and a sunset over Kent Narrows. This year, we're doing it again.

Mark your calendar! Details to follow. 🦀

Maryland is investing in its future workforce with $4M in new "Road to Careers" grants aimed at training residents for transportation and construction jobs. 👷

Announced by Governor Wes Moore, the funding will support pre-apprenticeship and registered apprenticeship programs, helping nearly 400 Marylanders gain skills for high-demand careers.

Grantees include:
▪️Community colleges
▪️Workforce development boards
▪️Nonprofit training organizations across the state

Each is focused on expanding access for underserved communities, and these partners will deliver hands-on training, industry credentials, and direct pathways into employment.

Part of a broader $24M, six-year initiative, the program strengthens Maryland's talent pipeline while supporting critical infrastructure projects and creating lasting, family-sustaining career opportunities.

Certified technicians sample materials at precise intervals, density gauges verify compaction quality, and every batch gets analyzed for performance characteristics.

F-tests, t-tests, and quality assurance protocols that ensure consistency across thousands of tons of material, this work translates to roads that perform exactly as designed, year after year.

When engineering precision meets construction expertise, you get infrastructure that doesn't just look good. It delivers the reliability Maryland drivers count on. From highways to home, technical excellence makes the difference.
