There is a growing signal that a colder system could bring well-below-normal temperatures to parts of the Inland Northwest and Northern U.S. Rockies late next week into next weekend - the first weekend of September! The Climate Prediction Center has highlighted the region for an increased risk of much-below-normal temperatures from September 3-5 and the overall pattern is supported by forecast guidance showing a notable push of colder air into the Northwest and Northern Rockies. There’s also the potential for high-elevation snow, particularly across the Northern U.S. Rockies. Depending on the strength and track of the system, even some of the highest peaks of the Cascades could see light snow during this timeframe. It’s still more than a week away, so the exact magnitude of the cold and snow potential will need to be refined, but this could provide an early taste of fall - and perhaps even a touch of winter at the highest elevations❄️ 🍂🥶🌡️⬇️

PNW FALL-LIKE SYSTEM🌧️📉there is increasing confidence that a fall-like frontal system will bring big weather changes to the PNW the first week of September! Along with support from guidance, the Climate Prediction Center indicates the potential for a wetter pattern during this timeframe. This is still more than a week out so changes in the specifics are likely but it’s looking increasingly promising for some moisture, especially across western Washington, northwestern Oregon and into Vancouver Island🌧️📉

DFPA NEWS RELEASE: The Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) has responded to multiple Public Use Restriction violations in the past week, including prohibited debris burning.

This is a reminder to the public that violations will result in citations and fines. If an unauthorized fire escapes, causes damage or requires firefighting resources, you may be responsible for damages and suppression costs.

A VIOLATION WILL FOLLOW YOU FOR AT LEAST FIVE YEARS.

All violations are tracked statewide.

FIRE DANGER LEVEL CHANGE

Due to decreased temperatures and improved overnight moisture recovery, the fire danger level and public use restrictions will decrease to HIGH, effective 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, for all private, county, state, and Bureau of Indian Affairs lands within the Douglas District.

What does this change mean to the public?

With the fire danger level changing to HIGH, certain activities that were previously prohibited will now be allowed during specific hours.

Non-industrial power saw usage, the cutting, grinding, or welding of metal, the cutting, trimming, or mowing of dried, cured grass, and power-driven machinery for non-industrial improvement or development on private property will now be allowed BEFORE 10 AM or AFTER 8 PM.

There is no change to the Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL). IFPL will remain at LEVEL 3 district wide.
