Did you know?

RV propane connectors are color-coded to indicate BTUs and flow rates. This is for towables (& a very select few Class B’s that utilize portable propane canisters vs permanent ASME tanks).

Black is rated 70k-100k BTU
Light green is rated up to 200k BTU
Dark green is rated up to 500k BTU
Red is for higher pressure systems

I’ve included two pictures of products that popped up in the top 3 when googling “replacement RV propane hose”. You’ll notice that one is black and one is dark green.
This is especially important to consider with the growing popularity of tankless style water heaters which have a higher BTU usage than tank style. Add your furnace, tankless, and stove usage all together and it may exceed a black connector rating. To find the BTU usage, you’ll look at the appliance data sticker, or you’ll need the model number to search.

The takeaway is that you should match the original color for safe installation on towables.

Not RV related, but I have to brag on my husband, who got pinned for Chief today. I couldn’t do my work without him and his support, and I’m also grateful to have found work that can be managed with this military life. It is a well deserved advancement for him!

Announcement: Service Area Changes

From now through the end of 2025, I’m limiting my service area to within 75 miles/1.5 hours of Gloucester VA. I’m still available for pre-purchase inspections in Ashland (Richmond), as well as Yorktown and Newport News.
I’m also available for education sessions, in person within these areas or virtual, for RV shoppers and RV owners.

Congrats to the manufacturers/brands that made the RVDA Quality Circle awards list! For those not familiar, this is based on dealer (not consumer) feedback annually, in four categories: Reliability/quality, Parts, Warranty, & Sales. If a large number of consumers are having issues with a certain RV brand/model, you can bet the dealerships are seeing that and likely feeling it in their service departments, & those brands won’t be nominatedfor this award. So it can be a good metric to be aware of if you’re shopping for an RV.

RVDA is honoring 23 RV manufacturers/brands with Quality Circle Awards in the association’s 31st annual Dealer Satisfaction Index survey.

Today was cool! Aging myself here but I thought it was too neat not to share….inspected an RV today that was just a few months younger than me (1988). Officially the oldest RV I’ve inspected yet.
