During inspection, I discovered the bow thruster was completely inoperative due to the battery being wired in reverse polarity. This is a critical issue, as bow thruster systems are highly sensitive and can suffer significant damage if incorrectly connected. Replacement units can cost anywhere from $4,000 to $12,000 so correct wiring and protection are essential.
Additionally, the vessel was equipped with an undersized battery and charger, which are not adequate for the demands of the thruster. To ensure reliable performance and protect the investment in this system, I will be upgrading to a higher-capacity battery specifically sized for the thruster, along with a properly matched marine charger.
These upgrades will provide the necessary power reserve, extend equipment life, and improve overall reliability of the bow thruster system.
