The Grand Junction Union Depot is among a dozen Colorado projects receiving funds from the state’s Community Revitalization Tax Credit, with the depot set to receive $624,000 ⬇️

MAJOR AWARD ANNOUNCEMENT! Last Monday the State Historical Fund awarded the project a $250,000 general grant and the GJ Downtown Development Authority has pledged the matching funds to bolster the rehabilitation scope of work. This grant will fund the rough-in of all utilities and shore up all structural needs. The flatbed truck loaded with Ludowici roof tiles is set to arrive next Monday! UPDATE: regarding the recent break-in at GJ Union Depot.

First, thank you for your incredible support. We are constantly inspired by our community's love and appreciation for the historic depot. Your help in sharing our recent post was instrumental in identifying the suspects. We would also like to thank the GJPD for their responsiveness and thorough follow-through.

At this time, all five suspects have been arrested. The decision to press charges now rests with the court system. As the suspects are juveniles, we hope that a diversion program involving community service will be made available to them.

We are pleased to share that, thanks to our volunteers, all cleanup and repairs have been completed. Finally, we would like to commend the parents who saw the post and contacted the police; we understand that could not have been an easy decision, and we appreciate you setting the right example.

Unfortunate News. 5 intruders broke into the depot last night, Tuesday 6/2 @ 1130pm, and caused significant damage. GJ PD has a case open and has collected evidence. If you recognize any of the attire or other features of these individuals, or have information please contact GJ Police Dept and reference case # 2026-80000523.

On this day, April 17th 1906, Grand Junction's Union Depot celebrated its grand opening! Commissioned by the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad, the building was designed by Henry J. Schlacks, the founder of the school of architecture at the University of Notre Dame. The depot served the Colorado Midland, Denver & Rio Grande Western, Rio Grande Western, Rio Grande and Amtrak over its 86 years of continuous passenger service until its closure in 1992. Through city, state and community support, Union Depot is targeting Fall 2027 for its grand re-opening. Please join us Saturday May 9th, 2026 as we celebrate Union Depot's 120th birthday, along with Colorado's 150th and America's 250th! Hosting Wheels West Car Club classic car show and many historical railroad items on display. 11:00 am - 3:00pm open house, free admission, all ages.
