Congratulations, Benjamin Beinecke! πŸŽ‰

First solo β€” August 16, 2026, in N41376, Runway 11 at Walter J. Koladza Airport. Three takeoffs, three landings, all his own, and a shirt tail to prove it.

Ben was signed off and soloed by Rick Solan, but he's put in time with the whole crew along the way β€” Joe Solan, Emma Adam, and Jason Archer. That's what it looks like when a flight school raises a pilot together.

That thumbs-up says it all. Welcome to the club, Ben. ✈️

Congratulations, Ananya Jay! πŸŽ‰

First solo flight β€” August 21, 2026, in N31082, three trips around the pattern to Runway 11. She flew it exactly the way she'd been trained: steady hands, good radio calls, and three landings all her own.

There's no substitute for that moment when the instructor steps out and the airplane climbs a little faster. Well earned, Ananya β€” and nice work by her instructor, Rick Solan, for knowing when to get out. Welcome to the club. ✈️

AOPA just covered the Learn-Do-Fly Training Standard and Exploring Stalled Flight course β€” and Berkshire Aviation Enterprises is named as one of the first flight schools in the country to build it into our training.

That's no accident. It's a natural fit.

Learn-Do-Fly pushes past "can the student perform this maneuver?" toward "does the student understand the principles well enough to handle something they've never seen before?" That's correlation β€” the highest level of learning, and the one that actually keeps pilots safe.

It's how we've taught at GBR since 1931. Ninety-five years of training pilots to think, not just to pass. The standard finally gave that approach a name, a vocabulary, and a structure other instructors can carry forward β€” free and open to any school that wants it.

Proud to be flying it early. πŸ›©οΈ Many thanks to Rich Stowell and AOPA for a great article.

The Learn-Do-Fly Training Standard seeks to address student attrition and loss-of-control accidents through evidence-based flight instruction.

πŸŽ‰ Congratulations to Mary Wigmore on her FIRST SOLO! ✈️

Last Wednesday (8/5/26), Mary took N41376 into the sky all on her own at Barrington Airport β€” a milestone she earned through a whole lot of hard work and determination. Look at that smile β€” she did it! πŸ™Œ

None of us get there alone β€” everyone needs a team behind them to learn and reach their goals. Mary was soloed by Emma Adam, with Rick Solan, Joe Solan, and Jason Archer all proud to be part of her journey.

Proof that with dedication and the right people around you, you can accomplish anything. Congratulations, Mary β€” the sky's just the beginning! πŸ›©οΈ

πŸŽ‰ Congratulations to Brendan Stannard on his FIRST SOLO! ✈️

On 8/5/26, Brendan took to the skies all by himself for the very first time at Barrington Airport (GBR) β€” a milestone every pilot remembers forever. Incredible work, Brendan!

A big thank you to instructor Joe Solan for the preparation and guidance that made this moment possible. πŸ‘

πŸ“£ Something worth sharing from the flight training world. We believe learning to fly should be a great experience β€” one that builds confident, capable, lifelong aviators. The reality is that the industry has long struggled to keep students engaged all the way through to their certificate, and we think better instruction is a big part of the answer.

That's exactly why the quality of flight training matters so much to us, and why we're excited about a new effort to raise the bar across all of general aviation. Community Aviation (www.communityaviation.com) has just published The Learn-Do-Fly Training Standard (https://www.communityaviation.com/standard)β€” the first open, evidence-based training standard for GA. It's built on first principles, grounded in the learning sciences, and centered on the pilot.

Great instruction is in our DNA. Berkshire Aviation Enterprises has been teaching people to fly here at KGBR since 1944, carrying on the legacy of Walter J. Koladza himself β€” once honored as New England's Flight Instructor of the Year. That same personal, "like coming home" spirit still shapes every lesson we teach. So when a new standard comes along that's centered on the pilot and built to make training better, it speaks our language. Our Chief Flight Instructor, Jason Archer, has been part of the broader effort behind this work, and we couldn't be prouder of where it's headed.

This is just the beginning β€” a complete rethink of the training experience is taking shape. Stay tuned. ✈️

Big congrats to BJ Colaric on a first solo this past Tuesday. Hats off to instructor Emma Adam for getting him ready β€” there's nothing like watching all that hard work pay off as they take to the skies alone for the very first time.
