🌧️💨 GREELEY-WELD AIRPORT WEATHER & TRAFFIC REPORT ✈️

Well, we finally got some RAIN! 🎉 Apparently, Mother Nature decided we hadn’t had quite enough excitement, so she cranked up the wind machine too! 💨😂

🌧️ Rain: Finally made an appearance!

🌡️ Temperature: A chilly 45°F this morning, warming up to around 60°F this afternoon.

🌤️ Forecast: A few morning showers, followed by clouds giving way to some sunshine. Windy throughout the day, with temperatures dropping to a brisk 25°F tonight!

💨 Wind: The windsock is getting its workout in today!

✈️ Air Traffic: Somewhere between slow and nonexistent.

🚦 Ramp Traffic: No delays, no congestion, and absolutely no fighting for parking!

The ramp is wet, the windsock is wide awake, and the airplanes seem to have voted to stay put.

Chance of us stopping to admire the weather: 100%.

Chance of a busy ramp? Not looking promising! 😂

Just another exciting day at Greeley-Weld County Airport, where even when the planes aren’t moving, the weather sure is!

GXY Weather & Traffic Report ✈️☀️

Today’s outlook: sunny with a high near 89°, light winds, and a 100% chance of airplanes.

Current conditions:

* Temperature: warming quickly toward the upper 80s
* Visibility: excellent
* Ramp traffic: busy enough to keep things interesting
* Cool aircraft sightings: abundant
* Chance of us stopping what we’re doing to watch one taxi by: approximately 100%!!!

Drivers…correction…pilots, should expect the occasional slow roll, a little ramp congestion, and some excellent aircraft-watching conditions.

Tonight’s forecast: mostly clear with a low around 56°… and aircraft traffic likely continuing as scheduled. 😄✈️

🚁 Okay… this one is hard to miss!

A Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane made a stop at Greeley-Weld County Airport, and it’s every bit as impressive as it looks.

Built for heavy-lift missions, the Skycrane can haul massive loads beneath the aircraft and is used for everything from construction and utility work to firefighting.

Not exactly your everyday ramp visitor and definitely a fun one to see up close!

REMINDER: Runway 10/28 Project Phase A Begins Tomorrow

Phase A of the Runway 10/28 project begins tomorrow, September 21. Runway 10/28 will be closed, along with portions of Taxiways A and C, while Runway 17/35 remains open.

Pilots and airport users should review the Phase A graphic below and check current NOTAMs before operating at GXY.

✈️ August was a busy month at GXY!

First, we want to congratulate Greeley-Weld County Airport Authority Board Member Steve Nealy on his retirement from a long career as a corporate pilot. Steve brings years of aviation experience and knowledge to our board, and we’re glad he’ll continue to be part of GXY. Congratulations, Steve, and enjoy retirement!

✈️ It was also a busy month on the ramp and in the air. We saw a lot of aircraft activity throughout August, including plenty of business aviation traffic. We always enjoy seeing the variety of aircraft that make their way through GXY.

🚧 Runway 17/35 got some attention, too. Crews continued pavement preservation work and new runway markings, along with work associated with the new Taxiway Echo II connector. The runway is looking great!

☀️ And then there was the heat! August gave us plenty of hot days, but our staff, contractors, tenants and airport community kept things moving.

It was a month of milestones, improvements and lots of activity around the airport. Thanks to everyone who was part of it.

Thanks to federal and local funding, Runway 17/35 has received a fresh fog seal and new pavement markings as part of an important airfield maintenance project.

These preventative improvements help extend the life of the runway, provide a quality operating surface for aircraft, and enhance the safety and reliability of airport operations.

Federal funding will be used to help reseal runway 17/35 at the Greeley-Weld County Airport. Late last month, the Weld County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of the Greeley-Weld County Airport Authority and City of Greeley, accepted two Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grants, totaling a combined $435,000 for the project.
