Many individuals, especially new members, inquire about locating loads on this platform daily. I understand that the market is difficult to navigate. Those who are in search of loads should reevaluate their approach. Without a direct connection to shippers, brokers can aid in the search for customers. This area of business can be complicated, particularly for new authorities, as rates may be lower until they have built enough of a reputation to work with other companies.
I propose that you collaborate with a broker who can continuously reach out to potential customers on your behalf. If you are unable to accomplish this yourself, establish a book of contacts to email or text when you are scheduled to be in a particular area. Do not wait until you are in the area to seek work to avoid being stranded. Remember that many loads that may fit in your van or sprinter can also be LTL on larger trucks and can be moved inexpensively. However, you will always encounter others willing to move the load for less, so you must remain competitive. Try to reserve multiple loads at once or multi-stop loads.
Here are some firms to consider when seeking initial customers:
Auction Houses
Floral/Nursery Businesses
Entertainment Suppliers
Construction Companies - frequently in need of items delivered to job sites
For additional OTR possibilities, consider Junk Yards that ship domestically, Custom Builders like Engine block builders/repairs, Auto parts, Bulk Suppliers, Recycling companies, and so on.
You must think outside the box. Take a look around you. If you are in an industrial/warehousing region, contact logistics managers and transportation managers. Load boards are useful, but they account for only a tiny portion of available freight. If you have your own authority, do not hesitate to participate in government contract bids.
If you lack the time to contact shippers and/or dispatch yourself, enlist others to help you. I realize that this is an additional expense, but if everyone is making money, why not make money together? There is enough money to be made for everyone to prosper.
