My wife recently ran across and article on the page 765 that was covering the refurbishing of Smith's Ford Covered Bridge. Many of you will remember this bridge that is 1 of 3 just outside of Rushville. It was one that we had crossed on several of our earlier Boogie runs.
Maybe we will return there one day after the restoration is done. 🎩

RUSH COUNTY, IN - The Smith Covered Bridge, situated on Co. Rd. E. 150 N. over the Flatrock River, will soon reopen following extensive renovations beginning last spring. Significant progress was made last week as the bridge was successfully reinstalled.
When repairs began in 2024, the bridge was lifted off its abutments and placed nearby for repairs. Additional issues were uncovered upon further inspection, extending the project's timeline significantly. These renovations were deemed essential due to considerable wear and tear caused by years of heavy vehicle traffic, which typically necessitates maintenance every decade.
A few additional weeks of work will be required before the bridge can officially reopen to traffic.
The Smith Covered Bridge is a significant landmark in Rushville, Twp., and has garnered attention for its historical importance. Built in 1877 by local artisans A.M. Kennedy and his son Emmett, the bridge spans 124 feet over the Flatrock River and features the distinctive Burr Arch design.
Characterized by its rounded arch portals and elaborate scrollwork, the Smith Covered Bridge showcases the craftsmanship typical of the Kennedy family firm. In recognition of its cultural and architectural significance, the bridge was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1983 as part of a multiple property submission that included six bridges constructed by the Kennedy family.
