October is Pedestrian Safety Month! 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

Connected pedestrian facilities across Greenwich and Stamford play an important role in helping people move safely throughout the study area. The I-95 Greenwich PEL Study is considering transportation improvements that account for the needs of all users, including pedestrians, to help improve safety and mobility.

Today is World Car Free Day! 🚶🚲🚌🚆

It’s a reminder of the many ways people travel through our communities beyond driving. The I-95 Greenwich PEL Study is considering multimodal transportation needs throughout the study area, including driving, walking, bicycling, bus service, and rail, as part of the planning to help improve connections and mobility for everyone.

💡Did You Know? The I-95 Greenwich PEL Study isn’t only focused on I-95.

The study area also includes U.S. Route 1 from the New York State Line to Stamford. The Study Team is evaluating potential improvements to address safety, mobility, and connectivity for everyone traveling through the area—whether driving, walking, bicycling, or taking public transit. 🚗 🚶 🚲 🚌

CTDOT is planning improvements to highway signage along the entire I-95 corridor in Connecticut. The project will replace or overlay existing sign panels to improve visibility and readability for travelers.

🛣️Exit numbers along I-95 are being updated to a mileage-based system beginning in 2028, making it easier for travelers to identify locations and understand the distances between exits.

For example, Exit 2, which provides access to Delavan Avenue and the Byram community, will be renumbered to Exit 1!

While these changes are still a few years away, travelers can learn more about what to expect and Connecticut’s exit renumbering initiative: portal.ct.gov/dot/traffic-engineering/exit-renumbering
