Venice in October fog feels like stepping into a painting.

Fog on the canals at dawn, water the color of old paper. Forty-five minutes away by boat, Burano's houses in hot pink and cobalt blue, like someone forgot to turn the color down.

Two completely different moods, one trip.

The wind hits you before you see anything.

You're on the path at the Cliffs of Moher and it's raining, a fine cold mist blowing in off the Atlantic. Your fingers are cold. There's salt on your lips. You're holding your jacket shut with one fist because the zipper gave up back in the car park.

And then the path turns. Nearly 700 feet of dark rock drops straight into the ocean. Gulls hang in the wind at eye level, not even flapping. You forget the rain. You just stand there.

I know, because that's exactly how it went for me in April, right down to the zipper.

I went to the Amalfi Coast in October and here is what surprised me. Half the bus traffic of July. The sea still warm enough to swim. We walked into restaurants without reservations and got the table by the window. The lemon groves smelled incredible.

That was my October 2022 anniversary trip. I wrote the whole thing down, it's live today.

You are in the passenger seat on the Ring of Kerry and the road curves and the stone walls are barely wider than the car. A sheep in the road ahead does not move.

Your sister's hands tighten on the wheel. She does not say anything. She just drives.
On a research trip to Ireland in April 2026, a traveler watched her sister drive every mile of the Ring of Kerry. At the hotel that night, her hands unclenched from the wheel and the thought was clear: someone has to carry this weight, and it should not have to be a member of your own family.

The Ireland 2027 hosted trip is taking shape. In September 2027, a small group will travel through Ireland. The driving is someone else's job. Your job is to stand at the Cliffs of Moher in the wind and feel it. Seats are limited.
