* GRLW 3752 UPDATE *

Well, folks… we set a goal for painting completion by today, but we didn’t make it. Between dealing with the day to day interruptions that come with Short Line railroading, extreme heat and scattered thunderstorms… we made exceptional progress but didn’t quite make the goal line.

As you can see, the hood and running board striping is complete and the green is largely finished. Red, black and white safety striping on the steps still remains. Hopefully, with cooler weather ahead, we can wrap up the painting by late next week.

After that, the paint needs to cure for at least a couple of weeks to allow for off-gassing of VOCs before we tackle vinyl lettering, decals and FRA tape. It’s been a long road from December 19, 2025, but we are just a few weeks away from having a beautifully repaired and repainted finished product.

We can’t wait, either! Stay tuned.

We’ve made good progress with the painting of GRLW 3752 over the past nine days. Much of the car body had to be hand sanded again to correct quality issues (and rust) from the prior contractor as well as re-priming and re-applying the white base paint for Greenville & Western Railway’s classic white stripes.

With striping and handrails now masked, the first coats of our gorgeous dark green have been applied to the roof and much of the hood, and barring anything unforeseen, should be completed by next Monday or Tuesday.

We can’t wait to see this beautiful locomotive re-lettered and back on the road earning its keep in its 69th year in service!

Over the past few weeks we’ve received a few requests for updates on our progress with GRLW 3752 and GRLW 4203. Unfortunately, our painting progress has been *painfully* slow.

After blasting and priming, we incurred some scheduling and quality control issues with our contractor and ultimately had to terminate their services. Fortunately, we have now partnered with Johnson Railway Services in Anderson, SC, to complete the painting for us and 3752 is currently being sanded and re-prepped in the PKHP shop off Martin Road.

As far as 4203, it is on a planned slower path forward. All blasting and priming has been completed, but it has been moved to our shed in Belton, SC, to allow us to identify and repair some structural (we’ve had to rebuild the battery compartments) and other rust issues before it eventually heads to the paint booth. Hopefully we will have it ready for its’ new livery by late September. For now, our Frankenstein no longer looks like Frankenstein, but it’s all alone and still in primer gray in Belton.

We hope to be able to post some additional progress photos in the next 2 to 3 weeks, so stay tuned!

2026 marks 20 years for Greenville & Western Railway and last night all of our employees and their families (from all of our subsidiaries) gathered at The Peddler Steakhouse in Greenville to enjoy some fellowship, great food and celebrate this landmark. However, we ventured into uncharted territory, as well, as we (for the first time) had the privilege of honoring three employee retirements…

J. Marshall Lawson - 11.5 Years

William A. Striewing - 17.5 Years

Dennis J. Martin - 15.5 Years

Each of the employees received a handmade 8-day German cuckoo clock as a token of our appreciation for their many years of service and dedication to our company. We hope that they all get many years of enjoyment seeing them hanging in their homes.

It is truly bittersweet, as we wish them all the very best in their retirement, yet find ourselves quite sad to be saying goodbye. In many ways, last night felt like a changing of the guard.

One thing about Greenville & Western Railway is we are not just a company, but a family. So very happy we could all gather to recognize their individual contributions and remind them that even in retirement they still have a place here to call home.

Greenville & Western Railway was honored to be a part of Eastern Engineered Wood Products Grand Opening festivities on Thursday this week. We were pleased to provide EEWP’s management and staff with a pre-grand opening luncheon aboard GRLW’s 1952 Pullman Standard passenger car River Falls ahead of the formal ceremony and enjoyed the opportunity to get to know our new customer’s personnel and learn more about how their business operates. The luncheon was GRLW’s way of saying thank you to EEWP for making Belton their newest home!

From our first introductions on January 29, 2020, to the first railcar being placed at GRLW’s Big Creek Machinery Distribution Hub in Williamston on May 12, 2023, to support a temporary Pelzer distribution location (3 years and 104 days), to the first railcar being placed at EEWP’s new Belton facility on December 23, 2025, as construction was still being completed in Belton (5 years and 330 days), to yesterday’s Grand Opening (6 years and 184 days)… it has been a long journey that was absolutely worth the wait!

When you consider the jobs that Belton has lost over the years because of other employers shuttering their facilities, it is so encouraging to have a great company like EEWP make such a major investment in the community. Not only are they making an investment in the property and infrastructure but particularly bringing jobs today, as well as the potential for additional investment and growth that will result in expanded job opportunities in Belton in the future.

Greenville & Western Railway would like to acknowledge and thank Harold Clinkscales, the Mayor and Council for the City of Belton, Anderson County Council, Anderson County Economic Development, and the South Carolina Department of Commerce for their respective roles in helping make EEWP’s presence in Belton, South Carolina a reality.

Greenville & Western Railway will be performing track maintenance and resurfacing of the rail-highway grade crossing located on Beeks Road (C-18-25) during the week of July 28 to July 30, 2026.

The area of Beeks Road (C-18-25) forming the rail highway grade crossing near Belton Honea Path Highway (US 76 / US 178) will be closed for approximately 50 hours, beginning 7:00 AM Tuesday, July 28, 2026, through 9:00 AM Thursday, July 30, 2026.

Greenville & Western Railway thanks the public in advance for their patience and understanding during this temporary road closure.

Greenville & Western Railway honors and celebrates the 250th Anniversary of our great nation today by remembering the remarkable two-year nationwide tour of the 1975-1975 American Freedom Train that celebrated our 200th Anniversary 50 years ago!
