A Little Rum Barge History

There’s something pretty special about this photo. Taken in 2021, it captures one of the old Rum Barges, on it's way to RUMBA in Hampton Bays with a rainbow seemingly dropping right down onto it.

For those of us who remember the Rum Barge, it was more than just a place on the water — it was part of the character and history of Hampton Bays, and a place tied to a lot of great memories.

I thought I’d start sharing some of those memories here. More historical photos of the Rum Barge and Hampton Bays to follow — some you may remember, and some that might bring back a few stories of your own.

On the Rum Barge we’re not just about tours. While in Hampton Bays, New York during the summer, we offer a free shuttle between Cowfish and Rumba restaurants on Shinnecock Bay. Whether you're coming from a nearby marina or your boat anchored in Rumba Cove, it’s a quick trip where lots of memories are made.

Catch the shuttle Monday through Thursday from 3:00 PM until close, and on the weekend from 1:00 PM until close.

What a beautiful love story—this couple first met at Rumba, and after three incredible years, they chose to celebrate their big “yes” on the Rum Barge. We’re so grateful to be part of so many couples’ journeys, from those first unforgettable moments to the day they become husband and wife. Their wedding day was full of warmth, joy, and pure celebration, and we can’t wait to see the adventures that come next together.
