Get to know CAPFA. Spotlight: Mark Kelly

Ratings; private pilot, multi-engine. Commercial pilot, single engine, instrument, single engine seaplane. Endorsements; high performance and complex. Up-set attitude and spin training and some aerobic flying. 940+ total hours.

Favorite airport overall; BID. Class D; HFD, great controllers. Fav short field; Goodspeed. Fav soft field; Katama on Marth’s Vineyard.

Skydiving; three static line jumps out of a Cessna 182, one tandem jump.

Fav restaurant; Ellen’s at Block Island or Plane Jane’s at PYM.

Most exciting landing; HFD, wind 060 @ 20g28. Or any seaplane landing.

Longest w/o fuel stop; 59B to KWST, 266nm.

Furthest in club plane;KHFD to 59B, Jackman, Maine.

CAPFA has great members, is run extremely well, and the aircraft are maintained to a high degree.

Shortest; 9B8 Salmon River 2k feet grass in C172.

Never had a dead stick landing. Once experienced an engine out at 850agl. Restarted and flew on (always sump after refueling).

How did you get into flying? My father was a fighter pilot (and member of the Mach 2 club, pilots who have flown twice the speed of sound). Took me up in a Cherokee when I was six. Been loving aviation ever since.
