Stormy Petrel II

Stormy Petrel II We offer fishing charters from Hatteras, NC USA for groups of seven or more anglers! The hull of the Stormy Petrel II is solid fiberglass.

The Stormy Petrel II is 61' long overall and she was built in Kennebunk, Maine by Dwight Raymond in 1996. She has a USCG Inspection for 44 passengers up to 100 miles offshore from Cape May, NJ to Cape Lookout, NC. We have all of the necessary safety equipment and undergo annual inspections by the Coast Guard. Her power comes from two Detroit Diesels (671 turbos - about 425 hp each) with top speed

of about 20 knots. Our engines were recently overhauled after many years of trouble free operation. Unlike most charter boats, our boat has a full walk-around deck, and our bathrooms (two) are at deck level with household toilets. There is an incredible amount of deck space, especially up front, so in addition to fishing, she is ideal for cruises and wildlife viewing! Her stability while drifting in big seas is exceptional, such that we are able to operate safely and comfortably in conditions which would be miserable on most other boats.

Been mostly running birding trips for the last three weeks but yesterday we had a 6 hour wreck trip. A bit breezy with some cross chop on a NE swell but Jeff and his family did a great job angling some hefty amberjacks. We released several and kept a few for the table. Also picked up a Cobia off the bottom. No groupers this day, but we often get them too. We have just a few days open in June, which is a great month off Hatteras.

Spanish Mackerel have arrived in force. We just have a couple of days available this month, but they should still be around in June and we still have several days open then. This is easy fishing close to the beach and we have room for the whole family on our boat.

Finally back at it down here in Hatteras. We had a group of lifelong friends aboard today for a four hour trip. They wanted to do some bottom fishing, so we spent quite a while at that and caught plenty of bass but not many keepers. Fortunately there were some nice eating size king mackerel right there too. Back inside the bar, it was all the bluefish you wanted, and we stopped when they said they had enough fish.

June 28: Roberto and his crew fished with us last year and we caught a lot of tuna and a few dolphin. This year it was the other way around. Also caught a few Almaco Jacks and had an epic battle with a big Sandbar Shark on a jig.

June 25: Two four hour trips. Chris and his crowd had great fishing for Spanish Mackerel as soon as we put lines in on the early trip. The second trip was a scorcher, but Karl’s group scrapped out a good catch of Spanish west of the inlet and when we got back to the bar, Bluefish were snapping so we stayed a few minutes longer to take advantage of that.

June 24: Full Day. Keith Sawyer booked with us many months ago and it was his first time on the boat. We started out hitting some wrecks and caught lots of jacks and barracuda. When we got to the break, the Blackfin Tuna were snapping. Mahi were way offshore, so we didn’t make it out there.

June 21 Full Day: Howard and his guys had a great day with us last year, but this time the fishing wasn’t so spectacular. But we persevered and they worked their butts cranking off to bring back a decent catch. We caught some fine Beeliners in deeper water.
