Beautiful Lake Chatuge Hayesville NC

One of the most stunning mountain lakes in either North Carolina or Georgia, Lake Chatuge is set right on the state line and surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains. The lake was created in 1942 when the TVA built a large earthen dam to hold back the waters of the Hiwassee River, and it still stands as one of the tallest of its kind. Today, the lake stretches out with 132 miles of shoreline, giving you plenty of room to get out on the water. You can take a boat across the open lake, paddle into quiet coves, or fish for bass and trout. There are also trails along the shoreline, a sandy swim area in Hiawassee, and the chance to walk across the dam. For one of the best views, head up Bell Mountain and look out over the water and peaks all around.
