The Airport conducted its emergency response tabletop exercise today. A big thanks to Hays Fire, Hays Police, Ellis County EMS, Fire & Emergency Management, Communications, and Coroner, KHP, HaysMed, First Care Clinic, SkyWest, TSA, and EagleMed for attending. The FAA requires these exercises annually to evaluate resources and procedures to ensure preparedness and coordination in the event major emergency response is needed at the Airport.

✈️ Primary Runway Reopened & Commercial Flights Resumed!

The planned 21-day primary runway closure at Hays Regional Airport (HYS) has officially concluded on schedule, and SkyWest/United commercial passenger flights have resumed today, August 24.

While work on the full reconstruction of our crosswind runway continues to bring our facilities up to current FAA safety standards, our main runway is back open for scheduled service and general aviation.

Thank you for your patience and support as we invest in the safety, connectivity, and future of Northwest Kansas aviation!

Another month at HYS, another record! ✈️

As we wrap up May, the final numbers from April are in, and it was an incredible month of serving our community.

Here are a few highlights from our April 2026 market analysis:

Record-Breaking Traffic: This made it the airport's busiest April ever in terms of roundtrip enplanements. We saw a modest gain of +10 passengers from the same month previous year.

Comfortable Flights: The percentage of seats filled was 53%.

Unbeatable Value: We're keeping travel affordable! In our top passenger markets, 36 of those 42 fares were lower from HYS. This means our fares beat out Wichita (ICT) and Kansas City (MCI) in roughly 80% of comparisons —even when considering fares offered by budget carriers like Frontier and Allegiant!

Top-Tier Reliability: SkyWest at HYS reported zero flight cancellations for April.

On-Time Arrivals: 88% of all April arrivals at HYS were on-time or within 14 minutes of scheduled arrival.

Why drive for hours when you can save time and money right here at home?

Thank you for flying local! 🛫💙

✈️ Big news for our HYS flyers!

We are gearing up for a major reconstruction of our crosswind runway to ensure we meet the latest FAA regulations and are fully prepared for the future of aviation.

To get this important work done safely, commercial flights will be paused from August 3 through August 23.

If you have a late-summer trip booked with us during those dates, please reach out to your airline to make adjustments.

We know this is an inconvenience, but this upgrade is vital to keeping HYS the safe, reliable, and convenient airport you love.
