Stopped in at a Peterbilt dealership in Effingham, IL. to buy a replacement part. The part is $23 on Amazon so I figured it would be $50 at the dealership. They invoiced me $268. It took all of my composure not to throw the part back at him. That's over 1000% mark-up. It's pitiful what these large companies try to do to small companies. Peterbilt Motors Company Paccar Inc

Well, another year has gone by and I haven't completely lost my mind. Or my butt. We added 1 truck and 1 trailer to the fleet last year and ended up doing 257,049 miles. We made $539,143.20. We spent right at $620,000. For the mathematically impaired, that's an $80K loss. Taxes, fuel, maintenance, taxes, poor freight rates, taxes, insurance ($50K annual premium) and taxes have eaten us alive. If it hadn't been for the great words of encouragement and coaching from my sister-in-law and fellow business owner, Belinda Goad, I might have folded by now. Things are looking better, not great but do-able. I have hopes of growing by at least one truck this year but no real expectations. I have two really good drivers and a supportive, loving wife. Surely this year will be better. If not, it will be my last.
