PSA: our ass is cold.

Next Saturday snow storm, Pepe requests an indoor party, with heat, that he can hand out your drinks to guests. Is that your event he's invited to?

Just some clip-clop therapy from Bess and Mary.
You can barely hear the kids in the wagon singing Christmas Carol's.

We aren't going anywhere with a carriage today but that doesn't mean we can't make it down the road in a sleigh. Imagine the neighbors surprise when I passed him with a horse while his truck was stuck at the bottom of the hill!

Fun fact: although grandfathered in most places, sleigh bells are required on a driving horse in the snow in to warn other vehicles of your approach. A horse and sleigh makes barely any noise in the snow. It glides almost effortlessly over it; easier than a carriage with wheels!

I've informed several people already but we will not be doing any carriage rides at North Pole Acres this year. I've been getting texts, calls and messages about it non stop and as of right now we do not have any public walk up rides available for 2024. Sorry for any inconveniences this caused.
However, if you and friends, family, church or other organization want to get together and book a private ride we still have a couple dates available this year. Message us for more info.

Something our horses and mules do to give them an all rounded experience: farm work. Today we broke some ground with the plow. Left to right: Mary-Margaret (Percheron mule), Bess (Percheron mule), Pete (Percheron horse), Pretzel (Percheron mule). Pretzel is one of the foals born here this year that will become part of our future team. She was tied to Pete (as in not in harness or pulling anything at all since she's still a baby) to hear the sights and sounds of the implements we were pulling with the adult equines. This will ensure the process of her eventually becoming used to pulling something in several years will be stress free and not frightening. She handled it with no drama.
Too often equines aren't handled until they get broke to work at a few years old. They are hardly ever as gentle and trusting as a young horse that gets to experience the sights and sounds before actually being asked to work. We always aim to have a safe, enjoyable experience for our equines in training. Exposure young is part of this.

(The orange boots on Mary is to help prevent the flies she's allergic to from ripping up her legs. Fly spray alone is not adequate)
