FYI- TSA PreCheck appointments at HHI Airport for a limited time!!!!

Hilton Head Island Airport will be hosting a TSA PreCheck® enrollment event in collaboration with IDEMIA, an authorized TSA PreCheck enrollment provider since 2013. Travelers will be able to enroll or renew their membership at 26 Hunter Road on August 18 – 21, 2026, from 9am -12pm | 1pm – 5pm . The TSA PreCheck Application Program is open to U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and lawful permanent residents. The enrollment process is quick, convenient, and even faster when the application is completed online beforehand. During the in-person appointment, applicants are required to provide identity and citizenship documents, fingerprints and a photo will be captured, and then pay for the application fee. IDEMIA offers TSA PreCheck enrollment for $76.75 and if approved, travelers get a five-year membership with the program.

Following the in-person enrollment appointment, most applicants receive their Known Traveler Number (KTN) in about three to five days. The KTN number must be added to flight reservations to enjoy TSA PreCheck benefits.

ICYMI - The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) came out over the weekend and said that both TSA PreCheck AND Global Entry would be shut down first thing Sunday a.m., citing the partial shutdown of the federal government.

That would have been unprecedented. Even during the record-setting shutdown last fall, those programs were never shut down.

This brought about mass panic and outrage from travelers worried about long lines and angry that the security program that they pay for would suddenly be useless.

That lasted all of about 16 hrs, maybe less.

By mid morning Sunday, the TSA PreCheck lines were operating as normal. Then the TSA itself confirmed it, saying PreCheck lanes would remain open...but could be closed on a "case by case basis".

As of this post though, Global Entry remains closed...until its not. Until then, use the Mobile Passport Control app as a tidy workaround to expedited your re-entry to the U.S. when traveling back from another country.
