MAX Transit

MAX Transit Macatawa Area Express (MAX) is the public transit system for the greater Holland/Zeeland area. Its bus garage is located at 11660 Greenway Dr in Holland.

Macatawa Area Express (MAX) has been serving the greater Holland-Zeeland area of West Michigan with fixed route bus service since 2000. Our mission is to create a sustainable transportation system to be used by all residents of the Macatawa Area with linkages to other transit systems. MAX is governed by an independent Transportation Authority board comprised of representatives from the City of Hol

land and Holland Charter Township. Oversight of the transit system was transferred from the City of Holland to the Authority on July 1, 2007. The Authority contracts with the City of Holland for essential administrative support. MAX is funded by federal and state grants, a transit millage for the City of Holland and Holland Charter Township, and passenger fares. The City of Zeeland also contracts with MAX transit for demand response service for its residents. The MAX administrative office is located at the Padnos Transportation Center located at 171 Lincoln Ave. Each year, MAX Transit safely transports more than 400,000 passengers to their destinations in the local area and ridership continues to grow. Monthly Passes:

$15 Reduced Fare (ADA or Half Fare - Youth 5-17, Seniors 65+, Individuals with a Disability and Medicare Cardholders)

$34.50 Full Fare (Adults 18–64)

Individual Tickets:

$0.50 Reduced Fare (ADA or Half Fare - Youth 5-17, Seniors 65+, Individuals with a Disability and Medicare Cardholders)

$1.15 Full Fare (Adults 18–64)

Student Pass:

$34.50 (must have proof of student status – Current Student ID or admittance letter)

All passes (including the discontinued physical passes) are available electronically through Token Transit!

🚨 Big Changes Coming to MAX Transit Fares! 🚨

Starting June 8, 2026, MAX Transit is updating passes and fares to make riding easier, more convenient, and mobile-friendly!

- All passes are moving to the apps! Token Transit for fixed routes or the Macatawa Area Express app for Reserve-A-MAX
- Select physical fixed route passes will remain available for eligible riders only
- Any physical passes issued will now have a 60-day expiration

Have you experienced a close call while walking, biking, driving, or using transit in West Michigan? Your feedback can help improve transportation safety across the region.

The West Michigan Shoreline Regional Development Commission (WMSRDC), in partnership with the Macatawa Area Coordinating Council (MACC), has launched the West Michigan Missed Incident Safety Survey, also known as Near MISS.

This anonymous public survey allows community members to report near miss incidents and locations of concern throughout Lake, Mason, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, and Ottawa counties. The information collected will help supplement traditional crash data and identify priority areas for future transportation planning and safety improvements.
