The number one thing that breaks in a move isn't the fragile item. It's the space around it.

Dishes don't crack because they're delicate. They crack because there's room to move inside the box. Same with lamps, frames, and glassware.

Three things that fix it:
• Pack plates on their edge, not stacked flat
• Fill every gap — paper, towels, linens, whatever you've got
• Shake the box gently before you tape it. If you hear movement, it's not done
