F/V Freedom cruising with roughly 9,500 lbs of fish on board.

Behold the F/V Freedom. This is one of our designs that shares very close similarities to our propeller/keel versions. The shell was welded by an outfit in Cordova and outfitted by Andrew Sconce in one of our shop bays. We installed the FPT c16 800 hp, Hill Hi601, PACWest 10 ton and the bow thruster for Andrew.

We were happy to hear that this vessel performed beyond everyone’s expectations. He sea trialed the boat in Homer with a top speed of 30 knots at 2050 rpm’s. Fully loaded going to the Bay he reported a cruising speed of 25.7 knots. That’s with 450 gallons of fuel, est. 2,000 lbs of groceries, four shackles of gear, etc.

In Bristol Bay he did much testing with fish on board and the results were outstanding. He said that it can get on plane with 10,608 lbs with 2 zones floating at 5’ of water and do 24 knots to the tender. He says the boat pops up on plane very effortlessly with or without any fish.

The impeller needs some tuning so he can get his full 2300 rpm’s but we believe that this is so far the best performing single engine/jet combination in the Bay so far.

We haven’t posted in a while but that doesn’t mean we’re not doing anything, as many of you may already know we’re a family operated business (dad and 4 sons) we take our time off in the summer fishing in Bristol Bay for the wild sockeye salmon, there is a lot going on behind the scenes, stay tuned as we’re getting ready for our boat building season.

In the meantime we’re catching up with our personal life, honeydew lists, caribou/moose hunting season, family time.
