https://mauinow.com/2026/04/09/maui-visitor-industry-donates-pizza-and-toiletries-to-storm-impacted-residents/

HLTA’s community relief efforts continued this past week as we were on Maui , on a lovely sunny day, partnering with Mike Rompel and Dominos Pizza and joined by our affiliate chapter Maui Hotel and Lodging Association ( MHLA) led by executive director John Pele. Hot fresh Pizza and sorely needed toiletries were the order of the day as we were also joined by Maui Hampton Inn and Suites GM Sirkan Hizliok and his staff where we operated from and volunteers from the Maui Beach Hotel . Again it was so beautiful and heartwarming to see the reaction of the local residents that came through to receive what we were offering. Mahalo to Mayor Richard Bissen and Maui Film Commissioner Brian Kohne for making time to assist us. It was truly a Maui No Ka Oi type of day!

Our Generational Mentoring Program’s 8th cohort recently gathered for a special outing at the Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Kapiʻolani Community College.

Mentees, mentors, and our university partners rolled up their sleeves for a hands-on experience, preparing a delicious sausage bolognese under the guidance of Chef Salvo Coppola and Master Butcher Bryan Mayer. It was a great opportunity to connect outside the workplace, build new skills, and strengthen relationships in a fun and collaborative setting.

Mahalo to our university partners, Kapiʻolani Community College, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa School of Travel Industry Management, University of Hawaiʻi–West Oʻahu, Brigham Young University–Hawaii, and Hawaiʻi Pacific University, for supporting this program, to Department Chair Grant Itomitsu for helping coordinate this experience, and to for stopping by to spend time with our group and show his support.

Our mentees and mentors have been working hard these past few months, and we look forward to celebrating their accomplishments when they graduate from the program this May.
