With heavy hearts, we remember World War II veteran Mahlon Iverson, who has passed away at the age of 99. 🇺🇸 At a young age, he left behind the comfort of home and stepped into a world consumed by war. Serving as a Staff Sergeant with the 31st Infantry Division during the Battle of Okinawa, Mahlon stood in one of the deadliest and most brutal campaigns of the Pacific Theater.
For 18 long months overseas, he carried the weight of war on his shoulders — responsibility for the mission, responsibility for the men beside him, and the quiet burden carried by so many of his generation.
And when the war ended, he came home not asking for recognition or praise.
He simply got back to work.
He farmed the land in Heron Lake, supported his community, and later spent years working at Campbell Soup Company. Like so many from the Greatest Generation, he built a life through humility, sacrifice, and quiet strength.
Now another voice from that generation has fallen silent.
But men like Mahlon Iverson are never truly gone.
Because the freedoms we enjoy today were built on the backs of ordinary men who answered extraordinary calls.
He may never have asked to be remembered…
but he deserves to be.
Somewhere beyond this world, the guns are silent now.
The battle is over.
And a weary soldier is finally home.
Rest in peace, Sir.
Your service — and your generation — will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸
