The tow truck jump in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) is widely regarded as one of the most dangerous practical stunts ever filmed. The 12-metre drop into the Los Angeles storm drain was not computer-generated imagery (CGI); a real, full-sized Freightliner was driven by stuntman Bob Brown. The impact was so violent that it instantly destroyed the truck's suspension and blew out the tyres. Even more alarmingly, the force of the landing caused the steering column to snap in half, trapping Brown inside the crushed cab until the crew could free him. Despite the vehicle being totalled, its momentum kept it rolling just enough to get the shot. Director James Cameron later admitted that, had the truck stopped dead on impact, they would have had no way of finishing the scene as they only had one truck for the jump.
