TikTok Shop demand arrives in spikes. A single creator video can sell through weeks of inventory in a few days, with no forecast and no warning.

That spike amplifies whatever is already true about your inventory. If you already run out of stock between purchase orders, or your forecast misses by a wide margin, both problems grow on this channel.

The cost goes beyond the lost orders. While the video keeps circulating, it sends shoppers to a listing that cannot take their order, and the attention the channel exists to create goes to waste.

A two pound box came back billed at nineteen pounds.

Anyone shipping light & bulky product has paid this charge, often without knowing what to call it.

A new product on Amazon starts with two problems. Ad Badger puts the average Amazon cost per click at $1.22 in 2026, against $0.71 before 2020. A listing with no reviews also converts poorly once the shopper clicks.

Northwestern's Spiegel Research Center studied roughly 57,000 products and found that a product with five reviews is about 270% more likely to be bought than the same product with none. A new listing pays 2026 click prices and converts at new-listing rates.

Creator video does the work those reviews would have done. A real person uses the product, recommends it, and shows what it does. The viewer gets a demonstration and an endorsement from someone she already trusts.

Amazon changed its FBA fulfillment fees repeatedly over the past decade. US inflation across those same ten years came to 32 percent.

How did Amazon's fee increases compare to inflation over that time?

On Amazon, you buy placement against a search term. For your own storefront, you buy traffic elsewhere and work to convert it. On TikTok Shop, you recruit salespeople and pay them on results.

You list a product, set a commission rate, and open it to the platform's creator affiliates. Creators decide which products to promote, film the content, and get paid on what they sell. The commission has to be high enough to attract them, and you need a budget for the free samples they expect.

That makes a TikTok Shop launch a creator program. Recruit creators deliberately from the first day, and keep recruiting after the launch. The brands at the top of the channel never stop. https://f.mtr.cool/w8j3l403kq

Three names carry most of the parcels in America, and in 2025 the ranking changed hands.

Anyone shipping direct to consumers has a stake in the answer, because it shapes who actually moves your boxes and how much leverage you hold when rates come up.

Take your guess before the reveal. The full 2025 volume by carrier is in the pinned comment.

Keyword search rewards the brands shoppers already know. Even when a shopper knows your kind of product exists, a search for it usually returns the listings with years of sales and reviews behind them. Unless he already knows your brand by name, your listing rarely reaches him.

A product nobody has seen before faces a steeper climb. A shopper who has never seen a cutting board with a scale built into it does not search for one, because the words for it are not in her head yet.

TikTok Shop reaches people before they search. A video interrupts someone mid-scroll, the product makes its case in fifteen seconds, and the viewer leaves knowing your name. From then on, search can work for you.

TikTok and TikTok Shop do different jobs. TikTok builds attention: a creator posts video, and a brand that buys ads pays to put that video in front of people who do not follow it. The sale happens somewhere else, after a viewer taps through to a website.

TikTok Shop is a storefront and a checkout built inside the app. A shopper sees a product in a video, taps the tag, and pays without leaving TikTok. The order arrives in a seller center that works much like any other marketplace back office, and the brand ships it.

The larger difference is who does the selling. Creators pick the products they want to feature, make the videos, and take a cut of each sale. Their content becomes your storefront.

Founders think about "wholesale" and picture a chain buyer. In many categories, though, a distributor decides whether a product reaches a shelf at all.

Food and beverage runs this way almost entirely. Sysco operates 333 distribution centers and serves roughly 670,000 customer locations on more than $84 billion of sales in its latest fiscal year. A beverage brand does not sell to 670,000 restaurants one at a time. It sells to a distributor, and the distributor sells to the restaurants. Toys, games, and hardware work the same way.

A distributor asks for different things than a marketplace does. Case packs built to its standard, pallet configurations that fit its racking, and a GTIN on every unit. Lead times run in weeks, and the minimum order arrives as one large purchase order.

It also keeps the retail relationship and a share of the margin. That is the price of reaching accounts you cannot reach alone. We walk the channels here: https://f.mtr.cool/4nikw9mjj7
