The incident began when the officer pulled over a commercial semi-truck driven by Michael Jarrett. The officer insisted that the vehicle was in violation for missing a rear license plate, leading to a heated roadside standoff.

Jarrett stood his ground, explaining that his tractor was legally registered under Indiana’s apportioned registration rules via the International Registration Plan (IRP). Under these regulations, commercial tractors are issued only a single plate designed exclusively for the front of the truck, while the trailer handles the rear tag. After Jarrett demanded a supervisor and the officer checked the legal statutes, law enforcement admitted the error.
