Summer travel doesn’t always mean warm beaches and tropical islands. Sometimes it means lakeside mornings, cool ocean breezes, and discovering corners of the world that feel wonderfully untouched. 🇨🇦

This journey through Eastern Canada combined two destinations that couldn’t feel more different, yet paired together perfectly.

We began in Quebec’s Eastern Townships at beautiful Manoir Hovey, a Relais & Châteaux lakeside retreat where days were spent cruising Lake Massawippi, tasting local cheeses, exploring vineyards, and discovering hidden gems like a boutique perfumery tucked into the countryside.

Then we headed east to Fogo Island Inn, one of the most remarkable hotels we’ve ever experienced. Reached by plane, transfer, and ferry, the journey is part of the adventure. Perched on the edge of the North Atlantic, it feels like the end of the world in the very best way.

1. The hotel you stay in DOES matter.
It sets the tone for the entire trip. A great destination with the wrong hotel can be disappointing. A great hotel can completely elevate a destination.

2. Not all 5 star hotels are created equal.
A 5 star in one destination can feel very different from a 5 star somewhere else. Star ratings don’t travel. Firsthand experience does.

3. AI can give you options.
It cannot tell you which hotel feels crowded, which suite has the best view, which beach club is worth it, or which hotel team I’ve personally met with.

4. Credit card perks are great, but personalization is better.
Your card benefits may provide valuable perks, but they aren’t personally reaching out to request your preferred room location, note a special occasion, or advocate for your stay.

5. The room category matters more than most people realize.
Sometimes the difference between a good stay and a great stay is one category upgrade, a better view, club access, or a more private location.

The details matter. Often, the difference between a good trip and an unforgettable one comes down to the decisions made long before you ever arrive.
