Two weeks ago, I headed on an adventure into the middle of the Alaskan wilderness all in the name of research😅

As some of you know, Alaska is one of my specialties, so when I had the chance to spend a few nights at Tutka Bay Lodge, tucked into a remote inlet off Kachemak Bay, I couldn’t say no.

There’s no road in. You get there by boat or float plane. And once you arrive, you can see why it has only 5 star reviews!! All-inclusive, world-class dining, and a lineup of activities that could fill a week🚁

I know it may make me sound like a crazy person, but if you haven't thought about your HOLIDAY vacations yet.... don't. Christmas time travel kinda sucks🫣

I hate to say it but it really does sometimes. It's so much more money and so much travel risk and so busy!! Unless you book it far in advance and lock in pricing and availability, I say skip it this year!!

BUT, let's talk about when you SHOULD travel before the end of the year!

The first week of December is an excellent time to head to almost ANYWHERE. It's called an "elbow" time period between Thanksgiving and the holidays.... so pricing is more competitive and USUALLY things are a bit less crowded.

So tell me, are you team travel for Christmas or team stay home and choose a different time?

People ask me, “where did you get such a strong desire to travel”

Well, it’s many things that fuel it but I’ve learned from my last trip, that the urge to see and experience everything definitely comes from my Gram!! She is such a traveler! She’s always happy, goes with the flow, and is even taking notes for her next adventure🫣😆

I didn’t know much about my gram growing up… just wasn’t as connected… but man have we gotten so much closer within the last 3 years.
Listening to her stories has made my realize that I for sure get my travel bug from her😋

I think people assume travel advisors spend all day looking at resorts.

We don't... or at least I don't.

When it comes to planning your trip... we gotta start with:
Questions about priorities.
Questions about expectations.
Questions about travel styles.

ONE thing I've learned over the years is two people can book the exact same trip and have completely different experiences.

One person thinks it's incredible. One person hates it.

Why?

Because travel isn't one-size-fits-all and that is why you want to hire someone like me.... NO two trips are alike, EVEN to the same property in the same country.

That's why I spend less time selling destinations and more time learning about my people.

So, would you rather go on a curated trip just for you, or go on a cookie cutter vacation that everyone else is taking too?

Fresh off another trip to Alaska and feeling SO inspired!🥰

Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing my personal travel experiences and inspiration for different types of clients. Today is for the families.

If you’re thinking of making Alaska the place for your next family getaway, let me give you my two cents.

Alaska is PERFECT for a family trip because it’s one of the few places where every generation finds something to be amazed by🤩 kids get wildlife, glaciers, and train rides, while adults get the scenery and the slower pace, and everyone comes home having actually unplugged together.

While I was there, I stayed at Tutka Bay Lodge and toured one of the Princess cruise ships to familiarize myself with a few different options I’d like to recommend to clients in the future.

I have to say, there are so many ways to experience Alaska and both the ship and the lodge impressed me and are great options for families.

Each is of course unique, so depending on client’s personal preferences, I’ll make recommendations accordingly.

Things my clients never see:

The 7 supplier calls.
The 4 hour hold times.
The 87 schedule changes.
The 24 contract reviews.
The room upgrade requests.
The backup plans.
The missed flights.
The late night emergency calls.

But...
That's exactly the point. You don't need to see it because it's for me to worry about! I love what I am doing for my clients each day so they can just focus on getting to the airport on time while I deal with all the back end stuff to make the trip go as smoothly as possible😎

How many options did you look at the last time you planned a vacation yourself?

I want to know in comments.... Because.... something I partner with you to do is NARROW IT DOWN. I have shifted from sending 3-4 options to sending ONE. But, don't freak out! It's the BEST ONE! The internet is great at giving options to the point of confusion and exhaustion... I mean, at what point can you really make the RIGHT decision?

My job is helping people understand which option actually make sense for them. If that doesn't work, then we talk a little more and narrow it down AGAIN.
I spend time learning the differences that don’t always show up in reviews… things like location trade-offs, timing issues, and what feels great in photos versus real life. That’s why my recommendations are never random. They are JUST FOR YOU.

In a society that is always go go go, it’s good to slow down and take the long way🩵
