School officials are in communication with Onslow County Emergency Services on the predicted path of Hurricane Dorian. We would encourage all students, employees, and their families to begin preparations for strong winds and potentially heavy rainfall.
Updates regarding Onslow County Schools will be posted on OCS social media channels and on the district website and app. Any changes to the regular school schedule will also be posted in these locations and will be announced via the OCS call system and local media.

PUBLIC NOTICE: In accordance with base order 3440.6F CH-1, Marine Corps Installation East-Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune follows a standard alert scale used by the Department of Defense to indicate the state of emergency or preparedness for an approaching tropical cyclone or hurricane, commonly referred to as a Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness. (TCC or TCCOR) [Ref: https://go.usa.gov/xVKwA]

The scale consists of 5 levels from TCC V to TCC I with three additional sub-levels for TCC I which are based on the expected time of arrival of destructive winds.

Changes to the TCC condition are communicated through various platforms, including the emergency mass notification system (AtHoc), social media sites, public websites, and the automated information system by phone at 910-451-1717, and the information is also shared with local media outlets, including broadcast television and radio.

From the Commanding General MCIEAST-MCB Camp Lejeune:

All: We are continuing to monitor the path of Hurricane Dorian and are preparing for the impact it could have on our installations. I encourage you to prepare NOW before the storm arrives. I am aware you have questions about evacuation orders in the wake of this hurricane. While there will be significant rain and wind impacts felt from this storm, I will not issue a blanket-type order to evacuate our installations. There are essential personnel who always remain behind to assist with shelters, recovery and restoration operations and every command has different mission priorities that may require specific personnel to remain behind to assist the base or to fulfill other operational commitments. To ensure the safety and welfare of service members and their families, INDIVIDUAL COMMANDS are strongly encouraged to issue liberal leave policies to allow non-essential people to remain outside of the storm's path or evacuate if they spent the 96 locally, so I urge everyone to communicate with their respective chains of command to obtain specific instructions.

Many parts of our community are still vulnerable from damage sustained during Hurricane Florence. Families who feel they are not prepared to ride out the storm in their homes should make plans to leave the area by Wednesday, Sept. 4. If we go to Tropical Cyclone Condition II we will open Wallace Creek Fitness Center on base as a pet-friendly shelter for DoD card holders and open others if we exceed capacity. In the meantime, please continue to monitor our websites and official social media pages for regular updates. I will have further announcements as Dorian's path develops.

Thank you, and please stay safe everyone.

Semper Fidelis,
Dale Alford
