June has been a busy and exciting month at Sorensen Yacht Service! Some of our more interesting service calls have included:

• 62' Viking Princess | DC Charging System | Successfully diagnosed and repaired two devices (a battery charger and an isolator) that had shorted to ground during a catastrophic electrical event. < 3 hours;
• 72' Azimut Flybridge | AC Power Control Panel | Generator #2 unable to power Bus A. Brief evaluation revealed Gen 2's Contactor had intermittent continuity across its L3 Contact, and an auxiliary contact did not change state at all upon engagement. Replacement devices were overnighted, and will be installed today. ~ 4 hours;
• 70' Concordia Sloop | AC Power Control Panel | Breaker tripping on generator main. Faulty breaker (easy one). Part is on order. Also, during the same visit, repaired an inoperable engine kill switch; 2.5 hours so far, and budget one more for part replacement;
• 43' Azimut Atlantic | Charging System | Replaced a control panel and several hundred feet of cabling that had been damaged during an electrical fire (cause of fire previously determined by others: human error [not factory defect]). Two technicians, five days (which commenced on the day we received the call).

Drawing from our deep experience with relay and microprocessor-based control systems, Sorensen Yacht Service expeditiously diagnoses and repairs complicated marine electrical issues. Big problem or little demon, Sorensen Yacht Service sends them packing. Schedule a service call today!

Beautiful Little Harbor Whisperjet 38 with two networked Raymarine Classic E-Series MFDs. Customer began experiencing display problems immediately upon installing a new Navionics card; he feared he might be due for an expensive electronics upgrade. However, to the gentleman's pleasant surprise, Sorensen Yacht Service corrected the problem by updating the operating software at both devices. With a high-end heritage system that was well installed and remains in excellent condition, for the cost of a partial day service call this customer can now expect a few more years of reliable service from the marine electronics he already owns.

Having problems with your heritage marine electronics? The solution could be a lot less expensive than you think. Arrange a service call by Sorensen Yacht Service today - complete our contact form at http://www.sorensenyacht.com

A charter boat captain visited our booth at the Festival yesterday. The bow thruster on his 35-foot Duffy Downeaster was inoperable. In a 1-hour service call this afternoon, Sorensen Yacht Service isolated the problem to the thruster's motor. The motor was removed and taken back to our shop for service. Upon teardown, we identified carbon buildup on the commutator (from normal brush contact). We resurfaced the part and reassembled the motor; bench test passed with flying colors. The Captain will pick up the motor at our office in the morning, and reinstall it on his own. At the cost of 3.5 hours' labor, ~ $1,000 was saved (as compared to buying a new motor). Another happy skipper set to sail!

Charging system repair on Oakcliff Ocean Racing Team 's Class 40. Alternator belt misaligned by 1/4". In one mobilization, a Sorensen Yacht Service technician identified the problem, removed the alternator and engine bracket, milled-down the bracket, fabricated two custom spacers, sourced new mounting hardware, and reinstalled the assembly. He then installed, wired, and programmed a new external voltage regulator. One technician, one day, one happy customer.

Happy Mother's Day, ladies - wishing you all a great day!

It was another busy week at Sorensen Yacht Service! Highlight projects included:
- Installation of a Garmin GMR Fantom 24 Radar and 8212 MFD. A marine surveyor was happy to have chosen Sorensen Yacht Service to complete this nice upfit to his own beautiful Egg Harbor 35. With a crapped-out old Furuno whose contemporary equivalent is cost prohibitive, an experienced marine professional found everything he wanted -- and more -- in this state-of-the-art solution from Garmin > https://youtu.be/1Onc6fankkk
- Installation of a Raymarine AIS650, and network integration with an existing Raymarine E80 MFD. A busy yacht yard commissioned us to complete this safety upfit on a Beneteau 40. The owner is entered in this year's Newport-Bermuda Race, and AIS is a requirement. With vessel inspection scheduled for Tuesday, and the Yard up to its gills in work, Sorensen Yacht Service stepped-in and got it done. Nice teaming arrangement here, and a good example of continued system expansion on a heritage MFD > http://www.raymarine.com/view/?id=558
- Last but not least, Oakcliff Sailing Center called us with an emergency late Friday afternoon. Their Class 40, scheduled to race on Saturday, was not charging its batteries. A 7 PM service call revealed an unwanted intermittently-open circuit at the alternator (a wire hanging on by a strand) that apparently roasted the external voltage regulator (by continued making/breaking of its main power feed). The wiring was repaired, and a replacement regulator was scavenged from another Oakcliff vessel. An hour later, the Team was once again ready to race! Thank you, Dawn, for your nice post!
