In less than 24 hours, Wells Aircraft went from waiting for an arriving aircraft to refuel to recovering one from a wheat field after it came up just short of the runway, short of fuel by just that much!
Thankfully, there were no injuries, and the pilot made quick, smart decisions in choosing a safe landing site. Instead of attempting to reach the hospital, clinic, mall area, Highway 61, or even Lowe’s parking lots, the pilot safely landed in an open wheat field and he and his wife walked away!

A huge thank-you goes out to everyone who helped make this recovery possible before the heavy rains move in. Special thanks to Hutchinson PD for escorting us across 30th Street, down Highway 61, and making the wide left turn onto Airport Road back to the airport — all while accompanying a very unusual-looking tow truck with wings!

We also appreciate all the drivers who gave us the right-of-way, Lonnie with McKenzie Paint & Body and especially Team Wells Aircraft, who all pitched in and worked together to recover the plane quickly and safely to our hangars. All ends well in this adventure!

Another day in the life of airport operations. This was a mechanical issue involving the landing gear. The aircraft spent approximately 25 minutes circling Hutchinson while the crew troubleshot why one of the main landing gear assemblies would not fully extend. Pilots from a sister T-6 aircraft flew in tight formation around the aircraft, assisting the accident crew with troubleshooting and providing visual confirmation of the landing gear issue. Multiple passes were also made by the Hutchinson tower for additional visual verification that one gear had not extended properly.
The decision was ultimately made to perform a belly landing, and Vance AFB Operations selected McConnell AFB for the landing due to the resources available for aircraft recovery.
Special thanks to the Hutchinson Fire Department for responding to Hutchinson Airport in the event the crew had decided to conduct the belly landing at KHUT. Outstanding work by the Hutchinson tower team for coordinating communications and relaying Vance operational response information to the aircrew via landlines. Great job as well to Wells Aircraft for rapidly mobilizing recovery equipment just in case.
Finally, outstanding work by the pilot and aircrew for applying their training and ensuring a safe outcome. Everyone went home safe!

What if you could drop 22.3 lbs from your aircraft—without changing your diet? Increase useful load, save fuel costs, increase climb rate and shorter take off rolls with reduced weight.

Yesterday, EarthX received FAA STC approval for Cirrus aircraft, opening the door to a major weight-saving upgrade.

If your aircraft is out of warranty, this is a strong option to consider:

22.3 lbs weight savings!
Same cranking power as G7 batteries 400 CCA more than double!
Improved cold and hot start performance confidence to crank!
2-3X life span of lead acid batteries.
Updated approved documentation + new Weight & Balance

This is a simple way to improve performance, useful load, and reliability all at once.

Give Bryant or Don a call to get on the schedule.
