🇫🇮 Last Full Day in Finland 🇫🇮

Yesterday we wrapped up our time in Finland with a visit to Suomenlinna Sea Fortress , and this time, it was a real ferry ride over to the fortress 😂

The sea fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage Site is spread across six islands and built over three centuries with history tied to Sweden, Russia, and Finland. Walking through the fortress felt like stepping back in time. Exploring the tunnels, climbing along the fortress walls, and taking in those coastal views, totally worth it!

After heading back to mainland Helsinki, we wandered through the local markets and did what we do best… eat our way through a city 😆

🍦 Maksim grabbed some gelato
🍩 We tried tippaleipä (think crunchy funnel cake!)
🍪 Rosette cookies — thin, crispy, and addicting
🍰 And a Runebergin torttu (like a rum cake with raspberry jam, our favorite!)

On our walk back to the hotel we found a local barbershop and kept the tradition alive ✂️Maksim now has haircuts from New Zealand, Costa Rica, and Finland ,not a bad collection!

We ended the night with dinner and a homemade charcuterie plate back at the hotel.

Now it’s time to start the journey home, and while we’re sad to leave, we’re beyond grateful for the memories made across these incredible countries 💚🌍

We will definitely be back to this region!

Last full day in Latvia 🇱🇻 before we start making our way home and we had to hit up a few more spots.

After accidentally sleeping in (which was MUCH needed after a week of go-go-go), we kicked off the day at St. Peter’s Church.

We took the elevator up to the top of the tower (best €9 we’ve spent), and the views over Riga were absolutely breathtaking. Totally worth it! I can only imagine how incredible it would be at sunset or at night with all the city lights unfortunately, it’s only open late on Fridays and Saturdays, so we just missed it this time. Guess that's another excuse to come back 😉

Next stop: the famous Riga Central Market.

This place is HUGE easily one of the coolest markets we’ve visited. Fresh meats, cheeses, fruits, veggies, honey, everything looked and smelled amazing. Our guide recommended a Uzbekistan vendor, and we’re so glad we had a chance to try it. The bread and chicken & cheese pastry were delicious. This is our second time trying Uzbek food and it feels like a trip to Uzbekistan might be happening purely for the food 😂

We then explored the Latvian War Museum.

It was a very eye opening experience. Latvia’s (as well as all the Baltic states) support for Ukraine is very visible, and seeing real artifacts including a destroyed vehicle and a downed drone really puts things into perspective. It feels weird to call it a highlight , but probably the coolest things I saw in the museum.

After that, we made one last stop at our favorite Lido restaurant (no pictures, we got a little excited and started eating 😂), did a little shopping, and checked off something I've been eying the last couple of days, Cruffins! 🤤 Ashley made sure we didn’t leave without trying them, and they did NOT disappoint. Vanilla cream, pistachio, and raspberry cheesecake. Raspberry cheesecake was the overall winner but they were all delicious! Paired them with a limoncello spritz, it was a perfect way to end our last day.

Latvia, you surprised us in the best way. This wasn’t originally high on our travel list, but it climbed up fast. We’ll definitely be back, looking forward to visiting in the summer ☀️

Another country unlocked… and what a day it was! 🇱🇹

Yesterday was JAM PACKED from start to finish. We kicked things off with an early pickup from our awesome guide Erlans and made our way to the border of Latvia and Lithuania… because why not add another country to the list 😎

Our first stop: the incredible Hill of Crosses

Absolutely jaw dropping. There are crosses EVERYWHERE. Our guide shared that the last official count was attempted by a group of students in 2006 and they gave up after 5 days 😳 It’s estimated now that there are over 500,000 crosses and still growing daily.

From there, we headed back into Latvia to explore the stunning Rundāle Palace. This place was straight out of a movie. The gardens, the architecture, the details inside was unreal. Fun fact: our guide shared that the ballroom is STILL used today and can be rented for around €600/hour. Imagine getting married there?! 🤯

Next up: Bauska Castle

We walked the grounds, learned the history, and even climbed one of the recently restored towers. The views alone made it worth it!

After a LONG day, we made it back to Riga, grabbed a quick bite, and ended the night at a Latvia National Hockey game 🇱🇻🏒

The energy was unreal. Packed arena, loud fans, and Latvia pulled off the win! 🙌

Honestly… going to local sporting events while traveling might become our new tradition. There’s something special about experiencing a place like a local, even if it’s just for a few hours.

Latvia, you’ve been incredible 💚
Not gonna lie, we’re not ready to leave. This country has quickly become one of our favorites, and we will be back!

New Country Unlocked 🇱🇻

Just like that, we hopped on an early flight out of Helsinki and landed in a brand new country. Riga, Latvia!

From the moment we arrived, this place has been nothing short of incredible. Walking through Old Town feels like stepping into a storybook, very similar vibes to Tallinn, but with its own unique charm.

We spent the morning wandering the cobblestone streets before stopping at a traditional Lido restaurant, where we got a taste of local cuisine, and everything was delicious! Safe to say we’ll be going back at least one more time before heading home 😄

Later, we visited the KGB Corner House, and that experience really hit hard. Learning about Latvia’s past during the Soviet regime was eye opening and emotional. It’s hard to imagine the hardships the people here endured and even more incredible to see how far they’ve come as an independent nation, since 1990! Maksim said “oh wow, they are only as old as you”

This afternoon, we joined a guided tour with a local who was born and raised here. Hearing the history through her perspective and passion made the experience even more meaningful. It left us wanting more and already thinking about a return trip maybe in the summer next time.

More exploring tomorrow as we take on more of Latvia and the surrounding areas, stay tuned!

Today felt like we accidentally booked a mini cruise instead of a ferry… and honestly, we weren’t mad about it 🚢

Bars, restaurants, shops, lounges, and it even had casino slot machines, this was hands down the nicest ferry we’ve ever been on.
Next stop: Tallinn, Estonia 🇪🇪

Tallinn did NOT disappoint.
Walking through Old Town felt like stepping straight into a storybook. Cobblestone streets, medieval towers, colorful buildings, it’s easily one of the most charming places we’ve visited on this trip so far. Even though the weather didn’t quite cooperate, we made the most of it and had such a great day. This is definitely a place we’d come back to!

Must-see spots we explored:
📍 Viru Gate
📍 Raekoja Plats (Town Hall Square)
📍 St. Catherine’s Passage (one of the coolest spots, walking along the old walls!)
📍 St. Olaf’s Church
📍 Patkuli & Kohtuotsa Viewing Platforms (INSANE views of the city + cruise ships!)
📍 Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (easily the most stunning church we’ve seen, but pictures were prohibited🤯)
📍 Toompea Castle
📍 Lucky Chimney Sweeper (we definitely rubbed the buttons for good luck )

Of course we chowed down
🥐 Breakfast at Røst Bakery — cinnamon roll + ham & cheese croissant = 10/10
🍽️ Lunch at Viru Food Hall — we went ALL IN:
➡️ Italian spot for Maksim’s mac & cheese fix (he was beginning to have withdrawals)
➡️ Chicken sandwich (needed a break from burgers!)
➡️ Greek halloumi + grape leaves
➡️ Uzbek street food (spinach & feta cheburek… you know it’s good when Maksim keeps asking for more 😋 )

We wrapped up the day relaxing in massage chairs before heading back to Helsinki… not a bad way to end it!

Tallinn, you were magical, even in the rain 🌧️🏰
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s adventure! 🌎 ✈️

Today we did a little more exploring around Helsinki 🇫🇮

We visited the Temppeliaukio Church also known as the Rock Church and this place was something else. Built directly into granite bedrock, it’s easily one of the most unique churches we’ve ever seen. The exposed rock walls, the natural light, and even the way rainwater seeps through and drains along the base made it feel unlike anything else. The organ wasn’t playing today, but it was still beautiful to see up close.

We tried to check out a few other spots and museums, but Helsinki is still celebrating the Easter holiday, so we ran into quite a few closures. We will try to check those out later this week!

We wandered the streets a bit more before stopping for lunch at Friends & Brgrs. The burgers were delicious, and watching them pull fresh buns straight out of the oven and prep them for the kitchen was such a cool touch.

After that, it was time for our first Finnish sauna experience and WOW 😅 I don’t think we’ve ever sweat that much just sitting still. Definitely something everyone should try at least once!

And just when you think it can’t get crazier… in between sauna sessions, we jumped into the Gulf of Finland with water temps around 33° 🥶🥶That cold hits DIFFERENT. Your legs are tingling the second you get out!

We wrapped up the day with a low-key takeaway girl dinner and headed back to relax before our next adventure tomorrow.

Stay tuned… more to come 🌍⛴️

Well… our time in Rovaniemi has come to an end!

We had an great time here visiting Santa Claus 🎅, chasing the Northern Lights 🌌 , and trying some incredible local food (reindeer soup and reindeer sandwiches for the win! 🦌🔥).

We also checked out the Arktikum science museum, and that was such a cool experience, super interactive and engaging from start to finish.

Unfortunately, it’s been a “warm” spring, so a lot of the snow has melted, and some of our excursions (like snowmobiling) ended up getting canceled 😕
But honestly… no complaints.
We’re grateful for the experience, getting to try new things, eat great food, and make new friends along the way.

The journey continues… stay tuned 🌍✈️

Remember when I said we needed that nap for our 9:40PM tour…? Yeah,BEST decision we made

Last night we went hunting for the Northern Lights, and these are just a few shots from our phones, still waiting on the professional pics I just know those are going to be good!

Seeing the Northern Lights take over the sky was absolutely AMAZING… but seeing them with your own eyes? That’s a whole different level, Unreal.

And when your tour guide says, “this is one of the best nights I’ve seen in all my years doing this” you already know you’re in for something special.

We didn’t get back to the hotel until around 2AM…
and somehow still had energy, so we decided to hit a local bar for “one” drink 👀👀

Well… that “one” drink turned into meeting a couple from Norway, swapping stories, and before we knew it we were getting kicked out at 4AM 🤣

Moments like that are what make travel so special, connecting with people from completely different parts of the world and sharing life experiences.

Travel really is an amazing thing 🩵

And after 37€, Here he is! 🎅

Such a cool experience meeting him, he was incredibly friendly and made the whole visit feel really special.

And I have to say… this was probably the quietest we’ve ever seen Maksim 😂

He was completely overwhelmed in the best way and honestly… it was a nice little break from all the yapping 🤣🤦🏽‍♂️
