Malta for New Years?!

Looking for somewhere different to spend New Year’s Eve?

How about Malta? After my trip there earlier this year, I couldn’t be more excited for you to experience it.

Malta is one of those destinations that feels like a secret. Think ancient walled cities, incredible architecture, Mediterranean food, seaside villages and thousands of years of history—all packed onto a tiny island. Add the advantage of English being the official language.

And New Year’s Eve is one of the best times to be there.

The ancient capital city of Valletta puts on a huge New Year’s celebration, with fireworks lighting up the sky over the historic city and harbor at midnight. It’s the kind of setting that makes for a pretty memorable way to start a new year.

Even better, December weather is generally mild, with daytime temperatures around the low 60s—perfect for exploring without the summer crowds.

Spend a few days wandering Valletta, explore the ancient streets of Mdina, take a day trip to Gozo, eat your way through Maltese cuisine and then ring in the New Year surrounded by the incredible architecture and harbor views of Valletta.
