Indy cut the ribbon to its 1.2 million square foot airport complex off I-70 on November 11, 2008 becoming one of the first new airports to open in the U.S. Each year, more than 8 million passengers pass through IND. A destination and launching pad for both commerce and community, IND is strategically located 16 minutes from downtown Indianapolis

and just minutes from major U.S. interstates including I-65, I-865, I-69, I-70, and I-74, all of which connect to the city's I-465 beltway. It is also within minutes of U.S. 40, U.S. 31, and U.S. 52. The eighth largest cargo center in the U.S., IND is home of the second-largest FedEx Express operation in the world. Approximately 2.2 billion pounds of cargo were managed at IND in 2013. IND is an important catalyst for economic development in Central Indiana and the Midwestern region, generating an annual economic impact of more than $4.5 billion for the area.

The front door to the front door to Indy is getting some love ✨
These doors on our departure level have opened for millions of travelers each year for over a decade and that adds up to a lot of wear and tear. Over the next several months, we will be installing new doors one by one throughout the departure level. If one entrance is closed, five more are available! Please follow the signs to the next nearest entrance and thanks for your patience as work to ensure IND is the lightest leg of your journey.

We're back to business today but we wanted to thank the hundreds of families who came out for Public Safety Community Day! We loved meeting you and hope you enjoyed getting to know the people, vehicles, and tools working together to keep IND safe.
