Go explore our wonderful national parks and public lands this weekend! This Saturday the 27th is National Public Lands Day, and entrance to all our national parks are free.

National Public Lands Day is organized by the National Environmental Education Foundation and has become the largest single-day volunteer effort in the country. Last year over 130 National Parks hosted events with 7,600 volunteers donating over 41,500 hours of service.

A few things we’ve learned from our time on the road with 🚐

🌲 Finding the perfect campsite usually requires taking a long ride down a dirt road and scouting it out.

🌲 Real food > Road food: You don’t have to eat fast food just because you’re on a roadtrip. Eating whole, unprocessed foods is one of the best ways to connect with nature.

🌲 Get up with the sun! We love hiking first thing in the morning to beat the crowds.

🌲 Embrace the silence. Put your phone away, sit and stare at the moon and the stars. How often do we let ourselves just be? How rare it is that we let our minds rest.

🌲 Explore less-visited National & state parks! Less crowds make for a more immersive experience in nature.

🌲 Don’t get so set on where you’re going that you forget to stop at pulloffs along the way! Pull over for the roadside farm-stand.

🌲 Get in the water every chance you get. Get your hair wet. Get cold. Be uncomfortable for a minute. It’s good for you. It wakes you up. It makes you feel alive.

🌲 Try dispersed camping on BLM land – it’s free and doesn’t require reservations. We use apps like iOverlander and The Dyrt to find spots.

🌲 campervans are powered by a custom solar system as well as the van’s engine while you’re driving.

🌲 Leave no trace. In fact, clean up trash if you see it and do your part to leave the land a little better than you found it.
