It would drive 2000 miles but ran out of fuelđ
Autonomous trucking just hit a major milestone. Aurora Innovation announced its self-driving freight trucks can now complete 1,000+ mile long-haul routes without stopping â surpassing the legal driving limits placed on human operators.
The Pittsburgh-based mobility tech company has already logged 250,000 driverless miles, with 10 of its 30 trucks currently operating fully autonomous routes. By the end of 2026, Aurora plans to scale aggressively, targeting a fleet of more than 200 AI-powered trucks across multiple U.S. corridors.
In a recent test, one autonomous semi completed a 1,000-mile journey in roughly 15 hours â faster than traditional trucking timelines, since human drivers are capped at 11 driving hours per day under federal safety regulations.
Aurora now plans to expand operations into 12 additional states, positioning autonomous logistics as a high-efficiency, high-margin solution for the $800B U.S. freight industry.
The race toward AI-driven supply chains is accelerating â and autonomous freight may redefine transportation, cost savings, and delivery speed nationwide.
