When air cargo moves through a connecting airport, several critical steps must be completed before it can continue to its final destination.
The shipment is unloaded, transferred to the cargo terminal, identified, counted, and checked for damage. Depending on the route and cargo type, it may also require screening, document review, transit processing, terminal transfer, or specialized storage.
The handling team must then confirm the onward booking, operating carrier, destination, departure time, cargo cutoff, and acceptance requirements. If the planned connection is disrupted, alternate flights or gateways may need to be activated.
Tracking every handoff—from arrival and inspection to acceptance, loading, and departure—helps maintain visibility and reduce connection risk.
