I spent the last week in Mt. Carmel, Pa. working on a beautifully restored 1948 Mack. It’s original to the American Fire Co. in Mt. Carmel but is owned by a private collector. We removed the ladders , hard suction, fire extinguishers, etc. to get all the striping on where it belonged. This truck looks better than new. I worked off the delivery photographs. Beautiful truck and beautiful country!

Last week I worked on a re-purposed Chief’s pickup. It became a Fire Police truck for Huntington FD. Mostly all 3M reflective vinyl and 22K gold leaf vinyl for the shield with a little bit of paint. It still has quite a few years of service in it.

Recently when working on a Chief’s car for Greenport I revisited an old friend. It’s Greenport’s 1931 Mack. Restored about 10 or more years ago this Engine has been in countless parades and other functions. I actually had done the gold leaf for a prior restoration years before for Jamie Mills who eventually donated the Engine back to Greenport where this restoration took place.

I had to deletter if that’s a word two of Riverhead’s Engines lately. Washington Engine Co. & the Eagles Engine shown already stripped. That represents about 50 years of service between them and Riverhead really uses their Engines. I got to letter the Engines before these two and the new ones that replaced them. I’m getting tired just listening to myself.

It was an honor to receive this award last Saturday nite at the Jamesport Fire Department’s Annual Dinner. Time goes fast when you’re not looking. My daughter Kerri convinced me to join and it was a start to a lot of years of service. It’s a privilege to serve with such good friends.

It’s funny how you work for years and things accumulate. While in Huntington last week I paused and took this shot of all their KME’s lined up on the apparatus floor. Each one is a special piece of work for me.
