I installed the watertight fore and aft compartments in the hull. The plans called for enclosed spaces. I didn't want to waste storage space so I made magnetic hatches instead. I installed the breasthook and stern transom knees. I've made scuppered inwales and have glued up the full length outwales for the gunnels. Once the gunnels are finished most construction will be complete. Then it's sanding and coating, sanding and coating, sanding and painting the exterior and varnishing the interior. 🙃

Hi Rob,

Completed my Magic Kayak this morning. I am pretty thrilled with the outcome although I do have to admit to a few imperfections which are my shortcomings, your instructions were excellent. My total cost in Canadian funds was about $2200 and my final weight 31 lbs. I expect my stem illusions etc account for a bit of this extra weight.

Thank you for your availability and guidance throughout the process. Pictures attached. Sorry there are no picturesque settings for pictures in Calgary this time of year.

Hi Rob, I just wanted to share some pictures for the finished product. I do appreciate the instruction of your manual and DVDs. I used some supplement from a few other sources (Nick Schade and Sandy Point Boat Works on YouTube, but sparingly). The boat turned out well. I actually plan to complete the MR340 endurance boat race in it this summer. Hopefully, it doesn't get torn up too much with that.

Thanks, Josh

I want a beautiful mahogany bow stem to compliment the stern hourglass mahogany transom. So I added mahogany pieces to the bow stem to simulate a traditional stem. Hull boards butt into a solid wood bow stem in traditional lapstrake construction.
