ACBL is hiring a Mechanic/Millwright at ACBL's Western Terminal in St. Louis, Missouri.

We're looking for someone with industrial maintenance experience and welding skills to help maintain and repair equipment at our terminal.

Candidates should have 2–5 years of relevant experience and be available to work rotating shifts, including weekends.

At only 29 years old, Colton Clark serves as Chief Engineer aboard the M/V Randall Chamness, one of ACBL’s largest vessels.

A friend encouraged him to give the maritime industry a chance, and what began as a job in December 2017 developed into a career that changed his life.

While working as a Deckhand, Colton spent his off-duty hours learning in the engine room. After only 7 months, a Port Engineer noticed his effort and recommended he pursue engineering. Over the years, Colton continued to advance, joining ACBL as a Chief Engineer in May 2025.

Colton helps Team Members pursue engineering careers, with several Deckhands he trained now serving as Engineers. He has also presented at a local school to introduce students to maritime career opportunities.

“There’s more pathways in this industry besides the wheelhouse, and the engineering department is one of them.”

Colton is thankful for a career that allows him to provide for his family while spending more time with them than he would in a traditional 9-to-5 job.

“I get 26 days consecutive with my family. We can travel. We can do what we want. If we decide to go to Florida, we all load up. This job provides the money for that.”

Having worked for several companies, Colton ranks ACBL above the rest.

“This company’s been around for a long time, and there’s a reason for that. They’re good to their people. They know how to handle business. I hope to be here for a long time.”

For Port Captain Dallas Theriot, working on the river is a way of life shared by five generations of his family. His father and grandfather were Captains, two of his sons are Captains, and his grandson recently became a Pilot.

After more than five decades on the river, Dallas joined ACBL as a Pilot in March 2021. Later that year, he was promoted to Captain, and in 2023, he moved shoreside as a Port Captain in the Southern Operations.

Vice President of Vessel Operations MJ Johnson has worked with Dallas for around nine years and considers him a mentor.

“The value that he brings to the organization is unmatched. We’ve got a relatively younger operating team shoreside with the Port Captain group. I tell all these guys, ‘If you want to be great, model your career after Dallas.’”

At ACBL’s 2024 Christmas party, Dallas learned that one of the company’s vessels would be named after him, an unexpected honor that still leaves him emotional when he reflects on it.

When asked about retirement, Dallas says he is not ready to step away from a career that means so much to him.

“When you love something, it’s not really a job. I love the people I work with. I think we have a great organization. And I do. I love it.”

For Senior Vessel Cook Lana Johnson, preparing meals aboard the M/V Capt. Carl Page is about more than putting food on the table. It is about caring for the crew, creating a sense of family and making the vessel feel like a home away from home.

Nearly two years after taking a chance on her dream job, Lana has built a career she loves and recently celebrated another major milestone: purchasing her first home.

“I’m actually working in an answered prayer right now. I love it here. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our Team Member, friend and SVP of Liquid Cargo, Mike Kennelly.

Mike spent more than three decades in the marine transportation industry and helped shape ACBL’s Liquids business. But when people talk about Mike, they rarely start with his title. They remember his smile, his sharp wit, the whiteboard he carried in his truck and the way he believed in people. Many can point to a moment when he gave them a chance or helped them find their way.

In 2024, ACBL dedicated the M/V Michael J. Kennelly in his honor. The vessel carries his name on the inland waterways, a reminder of the mark he left on this industry and the people in it.
