Did you know? Our school house was in use in Belle Plaine from 1880s until 1960s when the state closed all the country school houses and started bussing kids to the town. At that time someone on the Bieder homestead decided to put the schoolhouse into use and make a small home. You can see the marks on the ceiling where the room dividers were. Some old light sockets also in odd places. At some point, the occupant must have upgraded and moved out.

The schoolhouse was donated to the threshers club in 1979 and moved to the current location in Feb 1980. This past week, a beautiful globe on a stand and encyclopedias were donated back to the school from a family that had them in their possession for a while. Now original pieces are reunited with the school once again.

I have worked the school house since 2012 and have been entertained with many stories furnished by former students of the one room school house.

Potatoes will be for sale over by the bookstore. They will be available after the parade at the Model T Shop.

Due to a bumper crop we were able to donate to our local area food shelfs!
