For those in search of the wild uninterrupted, Thamabetsi Treehouse offers a rare opportunity to spend a night completely immersed in nature without having to sacrifice a good night’s sleep.

Set at the foot of South Africa’s Waterberg Mountains, you arrive at the tree-top retreat on an evening game drive and make yourself comfortable on the viewing deck’s lounge, keeping your eyes peeled for any wildlife that roam beneath you. As the sun sets, you can enjoy a lantern-lit dinner overlooking the vast Marakele plains. The sounds of the bush grow louder as you hop into bed and, far away from artificial light, the sky lights up to reveal constellations of stars in remarkable clarity.

For peace of mind, you’re just a radio call away from your guide, who stays on call for the night. And, for those not too fond of using nature’s restroom, the treehouse comes equipped with its own enclosed bathroom below.

A stay at La Sultana in Morocco is dangerous. Dangerous in the sense, given just how strikingly beautiful it is, that you may feel tempted to never leave the hotel. From architectural heritage at every turn to incredible views of nearby historic monuments, La Sultana has almost everything you will need on a trip to Marrakech.

Offering only 28 rooms and suites, each one different and decorated with collections of art, La Sultana’s exceptional location near the Royal Palace in the Kasbah neighbourhood means it is only ten minutes from the heart of Marrakech. In partnership with Historic Monuments a team of expert craftsmen focused on using the Medina's architectural heritage to bring this piece of history back to life. The vaults of the former granary, once used to supply the royal family, became patios. Terraces on the upper floors overlook a fabulous treasure: the Mausoleum of the Saadian Princes. Wrought metal, sculpted wood and zellige tiling are far more than just decoration, but glimpses back to it’s history.

La Sultana also has private gardens, a heated pool, two restaurants, an incredible roof top terrace and a cookery school for guests. A stay here provides the perfect home base to relax after days spent exploring the hidden wonders of Marrakech.

The Fes el Bali tanneries in the Medina of Fez, Morocco, are an explosion of colour. And, given that they are tanneries, they are also an explosion of smells (bear that in mind and adjust meal times accordingly). The intense odour is largely a result of the breakdown of animal hides using strong chemical soaks. If you can stomach it though, it’s a pretty even trade-off to enjoy the incredibly vibrant spectacle of this ancient tradition.

The viewpoint may have changed, but the view hasn’t.

To sail down the Nile is to retrace the steps of fisherman from past millennia, to see what they saw, and to feel what they felt. In Egypt, even the past looks back on their ancient history, all each one step in a long chain of civilisation.

“Travel does what good novelists also do to the life of everyday, placing it like a picture in a frame or a gem in its setting, so that the intrinsic qualities are made more clear. Travel does this with the very stuff that everyday life is made of, giving to it the sharp contour and meaning of art.” – Freya Stark

Travel to the Arctic in July, and you can expect a world of near-endless daylight.

These Arctic itineraries are curated around the very best of what the region has to offer. This might be searching for polar bears and ringed seals as you push through Svalbard’s pack ice, to zodiac cruising along vast glacial fronts as the sun paints the surrounding 2,000-metre walls a vibrant pink.

In East Greenland, you can sail deep into the world’s largest fjord are visit one of the world’s most remote Inuit settlements. Or, quietly approach musk oxen and reindeer on tundra walks blooming in brightly coloured flowers.

The possibilities for your own Arctic exploration are boundless, and that’s just one part of this region. Whether you are looking for this year’s last minute offers, or get a head start on planning next year’s adventure, and there’s never been a better time to get in touch.

Despite being the largest island on Earth, around 80% of Greenland is actually covered by ice, leaving small coastal communities like this one perched between mountains and sea. Traditionally, painting buildings different bright colours helped identify their function: red for shops, yellow for hospitals, blue for fish factories, and so on. Quite a practical system for a place where long winters and low visibility are the norm.

The expeditions we arrange to Greenland and further into the Arctic typically take place later in in the Northern Hemisphere summer, and last anywhere from 10 days to over a month long. A chance to witness an incredible wilderness region up close, Arctic expeditions can include the aurora-lit fjords of northeastern Greenland, the glacial coastlines, sprawling tundra of Svalbard or even the dynamic volcanic landscapes of the remote regions of Iceland.

And in case you get confused, Greenland has the ice and Iceland has the greenery. Simple!

Why not add an Arctic expedition onto your to-do list?

When it comes to adding an Africa beach extension to your safari adventure, you have options. Oh, so many options.

Mozambique is one of the finest. Shaped by centuries of maritime trade, Mozambique's white sand islands are dotted with fishing villages where dhows (traditional sailing vessel) sail by as they have for generations. It is timeless, and where something is timeless, the pace of the modern world can’t pe*****te to make your stay stressful.

Sure, you could go on safari and find the animals.

But at Governors Camp in Kenya, sometimes they come to you instead.

Does that make it a self-fari?
