American Legion Post 61

American Legion Post 61 The Jarchow-Schroeder American Legion Post 61 became a charter on March 3rd, 1927 in North Kansas City, MO. The post was named after Clayton F.

Jarchow and Frank W. Schroeder with Harry E. Richey being the posts first Commander. The cannon seen in front of Post 61 is a 1.55mm howitzer which was purchased thanks to the efforts of Jerry Litton, a Congressman for the 5th District of Missouri. Several member then drove a truck that was donated to bring the cannon home to its current location on May 23rd, 1973. This cannon was used in World War II and the Korean War.

Yesterday the "Hamburger Helper Cookoff" was a great success. Everyone had a good time with the participants winning some super prizes. The judges had to make some hard decisions picking the winners. The entries were very creative.

Last Friday July 10, 2026, we lost a longtime friend and member of our American Legion family. Ron Sloniker, age 78, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Services at Newcomer's White Chapel Funeral Home & White Chapel Cemetery, Saturday July 18, 2026. Visitation is 10:00 - 11:00am with funeral after the Military Salute at noon. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
