S. Acts 6:1 Now about this time, when the number of disciples was increasing, a complaint was made by the Jews born outside the Holy Land who spoke the Greek language and had adopted much of the Greek culture. Hellenists (Greek-speaking Jews) against the [Jews born outside the Holy Land who spoke the Greek language and had adopted much of the Greek culture] [native] Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily serving of food. 2 So the Twelve called the disciples together and said, “It is not appropriate for us to neglect [teaching] the word of God in order to serve tables and manage the distribution of food. 3 Therefore, brothers, choose from among you seven men with good reputations [men of godly character and moral integrity], full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task. 4 But we will [continue to] devote ourselves [steadfastly] to prayer and to the ministry of the word."
O. It's easy to get distracted by service. We think we are doing the right thing, it feels good to be productive in the name of God. We also like doing things the world can see so they know who we serve, but often times it takes place of truly being in God's presence and we forget to listen for what he wants US (specifically) to be doing. It can become a stumbling block as the pride of our service consumes us.
A. Prayerfully seek God for his will for your life and pray that others will be ready and willing to fulfill their positions as well so you may be a full and healthy body of service.
P. Lord, show me the tasks you have designed for me. Help me to humbly take the role and bring you glory through my devotion. Strengthen me to be an encouragement to others to carry their tasks. Help this city to come together as a strong body, each of us with our appropriate tasks working together for your glory.
